Chapter 2 Knockturn Alley
An eleven-year-old boy carrying a cat on his shoulders and a twelve-inch long wooden stick on his waist was so eye-catching walking on the street, but the people around Lu Yunkai didn't notice anything wrong with him.
In this way, the man and the cat walked for more than half an hour and walked into an alley.
The alley was not wide, and there was no sign of anyone.
Lu Yunkai followed the cat's instructions and pushed open the only shabby wooden door in the alley.
A creak.
"Who?"
An impatient old man's complaint immediately sounded in the room.
"Come in." The cat jumped off Lu Yunkai's shoulders and walked into the house by itself.
Lu Yunkai followed in.
The moment he stepped through the door, Lu Yunkai had a subtle feeling that he seemed to have crossed a long distance with this step.
Like the dim alley, this house was not very bright. Through the dusty window that had not been wiped for a long time, Lu Yunkai vaguely saw the medieval-style spire of the building outside the window...
Isn't it right? There is no such building along the way!
What is this place?
"I thought it was someone else, why are you here?"
A gray-haired old man appeared in front of the man and the cat.
He looked even more embarrassed than the scumbag in the beer hall who got drunk and had a big fight with others.
"Me? Do you know me?" Lu Yunkai pointed at himself with a little surprise.
"I'm talking about Chris." The old man pointed at the cat, "Did it bring you here?"
"Meow, tell him that I'm here to ask him for Jesse's things." The cat, called Chris by the old man, said to Lu Yunkai, "He doesn't understand me."
Lu Yunkai then acted as a mouthpiece.
"Jesse's stuff?" The old man pointed to the box in the corner of the room that was already covered with dust. "It's just a broken crystal ball. It takes up space here. If you want to take it, just take it."
"Meow! That's the crystal ball that once made the greatest prophecy! You actually said it was broken?"
"The greatest prophecy? The Ministry of Magic didn't include it, so it can't even be considered a prophecy!" The old man snorted, "What mysterious man is the messenger of some underground evil force, and what the Chosen One will wipe them out in the end of the world... The mysterious man is dead, where is the end of the world!"
"Meow? The mysterious man is dead?" Chris was shocked.
"You don't know yet? What have you been doing all these years?" The old man was even more shocked than Chris.
"Meow! It seems that Trelawney's things are unreliable!" Chris looked frustrated.
"You said that the crystal ball belongs to Trelawney?" The old man was aroused by Chris's words, "Do you want this crystal ball for divination?"
"Sell it for money, meow! My new master is poor."
"You are a good cat for selling the old master's things to the new master!"
"Meow. Who do you think my new master is?" Chris pointed at Lu Yunkai.
Lu Yunkai was stunned.
"Put it back." Chris meowed.
Lu Yunkai could only continue to do it.
"You?" The old man narrowed his eyes and looked at Lu Yunkai.
"What are you talking about? I don't quite understand..." Lu Yunkai shook his head a little embarrassedly.
"Meow, I'll sell the crystal ball." Chris motioned Lu Yunkai to get the crystal ball.
"I'll sell it to anyone you want. Jesse and I are old friends, so I'll take the crystal ball! How much is it?"
"One thousand gold galleons."
"Why don't you go and rob it?" The old man laughed ridiculously, "A second-hand crystal ball is worth at most fifteen."
"Jesse bought it from Trelawney for five hundred! It's said to be a Trelawney family heirloom! You can sell it for three thousand gold galleons in Knockturn Alley."
"A Trelawney family heirloom?" Hearing this, the old man was a little tempted, "Forget it, one thousand is one thousand! Just consider it as a thought I left behind by an old friend."
He pulled out a wooden stick about ten inches long, waved it at a box, took out a piece of parchment with words written on it, and waved the wooden stick again while muttering something.
A red mark appeared on the parchment.
The old man handed the parchment to Lu Yunkai and looked at him deeply.
"Meow, ask him for a few gold Galleons in change." Chris glanced at the parchment and called to the old man again.
"Gringotts has been reopened for a long time, can't you just go and get it?" The old man rolled his eyes at Chris.
"I plan to take him to Borgin and Burke's to search for some second-hand magic items. It's a lot of trouble to go to Diagon Alley and come back." Chris continued.
"Borgin and Burke? A thousand gold Galleons are not enough for your new master? Is it necessary to go to that brat to pick up garbage?"
"Meow, this thousand gold Galleons will take him seven years! If you can save a little, you'll save it."
"Here!" The old man took out a gold coin from his pocket and handed it to Lu Yunkai in silence.
It was quite heavy in his hand. Lu Yunkai looked at the gold Galleon and was a little shocked.
This is real gold!
"Just one? You are too stingy, meow?" Chris looked disgusted.
"Warehouse No. 3 only costs one gold galleon to enter. Do you think I don't know that?" The old man snorted, "Go away! I get a headache just by looking at you."
"Meow! Don't sell the crystal ball casually! I will redeem it when I have money!" Chris warned the old man.
...
"This place is called Knockturn Alley, and next to it is Diagon Alley, which is the most frequented place for wizards in London."
After coming out of the front door of the nameless shop, Lu Yunkai and Chris were in a dark alley.
"Have we arrived at the gathering place of wizards?"
Lu Yunkai looked around, and there was something like smoke floating in the air, hazy and full of the flavor of London.
"Meow, you can say that." Crouching on the human's shoulder, Chris had a bit of a commanding style, "Didn't your admission notice say that you had to buy a lot of things? I think there is no better place in London than here."
"Oh. That crystal ball, when I have money, I will redeem it for you."
"Why?" Chris was stunned by Lu Yunkai's firm statement.
"After all, it was left to you by your previous master..."
"Meow! That broken crystal ball can be bought everywhere for twenty gold galleons, why spend that money?" Chris looked indifferent.
"...Did you lie to him?"
"Meow, Diagon Alley is so lively! It seems that the You-Know-Who is really dead!" Chris's attention has shifted to other things.
"Peace is a good thing! Why don't you like it?" Lu Yunkai was a little surprised by the shamelessness of this cat, "Where is the Borgin and Burke you mentioned?"
"You already have a thousand gold Galleons, why go to Borgin and Burke?" Chris rolled his eyes at Lu Yunkai.
"Didn't you say that I should ask him for change... You are awesome." Lu Yunkai couldn't help but laughed.
Okay! It turns out that this cat thinks that selling a crystal ball worth only 20 gold Galleons for a thousand gold Galleons is not very profitable, so he made up a reason to squeeze out a few more!
This cat is interesting.
"Let's go to Diagon Alley. I want to see what Diagon Alley looks like now... I really miss it!" Chris's head leaned into the distance.
"Let's go to Borgin and Burke's Magic Shop!" Lu Yunkai shook his head, "There will be many places to spend money in the future, so let's save as much as we can now!"
"Meow, money is earned, not saved!"
"How can you make money if you don't know how to save money?"
"... Forget it, let's go. I haven't seen Borgin and Burke for many years. I don't know if he is still alive. It's just right to go and see an old friend."
Chris shook her cat head, looking angry at him for not fighting, but too lazy to teach him.
In this way, Lu Yunkai, led by Chris, walked around Knockturn Alley and came to a large store.
Pushing the door and entering, a gloomy atmosphere hit him.
"Welcome! Whose little boy is this? Are you here for adventure?"
A greasy middle-aged man's voice sounded.
Lu Yunkai felt very familiar when he heard it: when he opened a seafood store, he also spoke like this when he was trying to trick children into pestering their parents to buy seafood that looked good but tasted bad for them.
"I'm here to buy magic supplies." Lu Yunkai replied with a smile: "I need a set of potion bottles, a crucible, a telescope, a brass scale, a robe and a wand..."
"Are you a freshman at the magic school? Go to Diagon Alley to buy these things! I don't have them here! Where are your parents?" The middle-aged man's greasy smile disappeared instantly.
"I came here by myself." Lu Yunkai shook his head, "I'm relatively poor and can't afford new ones. I heard that you have second-hand ones here..."
"My second-hand goods are more expensive than new ones." The owner Bo Ke said patiently: "You've come to the wrong place if you want to save money."
"Meow! Don't listen to his nonsense! Tell him that you want to go to his warehouse No. 3 to pick up some scraps. One gold galleon ticket."
Chris meowed.
Bock looked at the cat on Lu Yunkai's shoulder.
"Is this cat your pet?" Bock's eyes were a little surprised, "I seem to have seen it somewhere..."
"I just need to go to your warehouse No. 3 to pick up some scraps." Lu Yunkai said to Bock with a smile: "One Galleon ticket, right?"
As he spoke, he took out the gold Galleon that the old man gave him and handed it to Bock.
"Whose child are you?"
Bock's brows were twisted into a ball, but he still took the gold Galleon.
He already remembered where he had seen this cat.
But didn't the owner of this cat die a long time ago? Could this be her child?
Not to mention the wrong age, it is unlikely that she will give birth to a child with black hair, yellow skin and Oriental appearance, right?
Forget it, no matter whether this child is related to her by blood, for the sake of this cat, I won't embarrass him.
