Chapter 570: The Land of the Rain God, Heritage in the Clouds

The wind blew and the rain fell. Blood spread in the sacred valley, and the bodies of the Mixtecs fell everywhere. The flames of the temple burned quietly and went out in the wind and rain, like the blessing of the rain god, or the tears of the gods, witnessing the war and conquest.

The black wolf walked through the bloody valley, stepped on the green farmland, passed the charred village, and climbed the gray-brown hillside. Finally, the ancient Tehuacan Pyramid appeared clearly in front of him.

The Temple in the Clouds, the Tehuacan Pyramid, or the pyramid group, is a sacred mountain sanctuary. It is located in the northern highlands of the Tehuacan Valley, and its scale is actually much smaller than the Alliance Holy City Teotihuacan or the Nahua Holy City Cholula. Among the pyramids in front of him, the most important rain temple is only 30 meters high, and the temples of the surrounding gods are even smaller.

These pyramids may have been built even earlier than the Teotihuacan era. The dark blue stone bricks have experienced two thousand years of wind and rain. The ancient temples are mottled and old in the wind and rain. They were glorious in the classical era before Christ, and sank in the end of the seventh century.

Now, they are reverently worshipped by the resurgent Mixtec tribes. The walls of the temple are full of snake-like patterns, as well as sculptures of jaguars and skulls. The ancient feathered serpent, the jaguar of the rain god, and the dead souls of two thousand years have silently watched the army that the Mexica conquered again.

Black Wolf walked steadily, stepped over the bodies of the temple warriors, and walked into the hall decorated with gold and silver. Then, a lifelike golden statue came into his eyes, which was two meters high!

The rain god Zawi wore an open wide hat and sat on a high throne. He had eyes that occupied half of his face, a flat nose, and wide lips that were tightly pursed. If viewed from the perspective of later generations, he looked like an old scholar wearing a pair of deep-framed glasses. At this moment, the ancient gods looked solemn and motionless, looking down at the tiny visitor, as if in deep thought.

"Is this the rain god of the Mixtec people?"

Black Wolf narrowed his eyes, raised his head slightly, and looked directly at the god. Mixtec craftsmen spent a lot of effort to carve such a realistic statue on the soft gold. Their metal skills are indeed the best in the world.

Facing the question of the Mexica commander, there was a dead silence in the temple hall. On the surrounding walls, fresh blood had not yet coagulated, and there were red palm prints. The stubborn temple guards and priests had just been dealt with. In the vast temple, there were only dozens of Mexica warriors in armor and weapons, and a dozen captured Mixtec priests.

"Hmm!"

After a long while, no one responded. Black Wolf frowned and looked at the captured temple priests, with murderous intent in his heart.

"Bring them here!"

Red Frog Coca nodded. He grinned and stretched out his rough hands, like a leopard catching a bird, and grabbed an old priest with feathers on his head and the most gorgeous clothes. Looking at the pale-faced old Mixtec priest, the former chief of the wilderness felt disgusted.

These southern priests are too weak! They have slender arms and long limbs, and they don't even have decent muscles. Not to mention magic, I'm afraid they can't even use their weapons properly. One wilderness priest can beat ten of them!

"Is your rain god the incarnation of Tlaloc, the great rain god of the alliance?"

Black Wolf looked at the old priest and asked the first question seriously. In the traditional beliefs of the alliance, the status of the rain god Tlaloc is second only to the supreme god, and has always been revered by the Mexica. If the rain god of the Mixtecs is related to Tlaloc, he should pay some respect.

"What? How can the supreme rain god Zawi be the incarnation of the northern rain god!"

Hearing the words of the Mexica warrior, the old priest suddenly changed color. Although he was trembling all over, he could not hide his anger and refuted angrily.

"The main god Zawi has protected the Mixtecs for thousands of years! The land under our feet is the sacred Zawi land, New Zawi (uu Dzahui)! The supreme rain god controls wind, rain, drought, disease and harvest, and is one of the oldest gods in the world. He shines on the valley, the jungle, and eastward to the Mayan land, and to the great lake. When he was blessing the world, your Aztec ancestors were still eating sand in the distant wilderness!"

"O ignorant Mexica, the Tlaloc you worship is the incarnation of the northern tribes after being inspired by the rain god hundreds of years ago!"

"Is that so?"

Listening to the old priest's story, Black Wolf opened his eyes and showed some confusion on his face. He had not received the inheritance of the priests and did not know much about the origin of the gods. However, when he looked around, the Mixtec captives all looked as if it was a matter of course.

Seeing this, Black Wolf nodded slightly. He looked at the old priest with his neck erect, grinned, and made a judgment.

"Well, you should not be lying."

"The Supreme Rain God witnessed everything! This is the temple of the Rain God, which cannot be desecrated. Uh! Ho ho"

The old priest's face suddenly showed extreme pain. He was shaking violently, but he could no longer say a complete sentence. Blood oozed from the corners of his mouth, his pupils quickly dilated, and then his body tilted, and he fell to the ground with his chest facing up. Large areas of bright red spread, soaking the ancient stone bricks, seeping into the cracks of the wind, and merging with the ancient temple.

"Ah!"

The captured Mixtec priests howled in fear. A sacrificial obsidian dagger was deeply inserted into the heart of the old priest, all the way to the handle!

"Disrespecting the Supreme God and insulting the Rain God of the Alliance will result in sacrifice!"

The Black Wolf pronounced the sentence with a grim expression. Then, he waved his hand and looked at the Red Frog Cocker Spaniel.

"Next!"

Soon, a young priest was brought over. He had a handsome face and wore a gorgeous feather crown, revealing his respected status. However, at this moment, he was trembling and his legs were weak. He looked at the corpse of the elder on the ground, and then at the Mexica commander whose battle clothes were stained with blood. He was almost speechless with fear.

"How much do you know about the information in the God Stone City?"

"God Stone City? It is the largest city-state in the valley, with a population of 20,000 to 30,000. The city wall is six or seven meters high, and it is divided into two cities inside and outside. The inner city may have been built by the ancestors of the highlands. It is a relic in the clouds two thousand years ago and has experienced several rounds of doomsday. The outer city was built by the immortal unifier, the ancestor Lu Ba Ri Tiger Claw King four hundred years ago."

"Huh? Highland ancestors? Relics in the clouds? Doomsday? What about Tiger Claw King?"

Hearing this pile of difficult words, Black Wolf widened his eyes and looked confused again. The young priest trembled in his heart, his whole body was cold, and he knelt on the ground with a "thump".

"Ah! Great General Mexica, please...please don't kill me! I am the descendant of a high-level crocodile priest, flowing with the immortal blood of Tiger Claw King, and possessing the inheritance in the clouds."

"Haha!"

Seeing this, Black Wolf laughed out loud. Compared with the stubborn old priest, such a respected young man is much easier to break through. He lowered his head, stared at the young priest crying bitterly, and tried to smile "kindly".

"It seems that you know a lot! Come, tell me the information of the Mixtec Alliance in detail, and I will give you a chance to convert to the Supreme God!"

The author will sort out the history and map of the Mixtec tribes and put them in the next chapter.
