Chapter 217: Mayor Summons
No one could predict what a werewolf would do when he got angry.
Even Clayton himself couldn't figure out what he was thinking. After being humiliated by the last courtesy, he was too lazy to think about anything and had nothing to say.
Donna's "Dad" made him unconscious.
When the door panel was broken, everyone saw the tall figure walking in. The thug with blood all over his head was still caught in his hand, as helpless as a mop.
There were two more companions of the thug, but when they saw Clayton had to lower his head to enter the door, they had already begun to consider retreating.
Clayton didn't give them a chance.
He casually threw the captives off his hands and strode towards them.
A thug swung the stick in his hand at him when he had no choice but to avoid it, but the tall man easily caught the iron-clad stick with his bare hands, completely absorbing the impact with his palms, and his body didn't shake at all, as if they were just doing a duel exercise in a drama rehearsal without exerting their full strength.
But both sides already knew the actual power gap.
The thug opposite Clayton threw away his stick without hesitation and turned to run away, while his companion had not yet reacted and was about to push over with his stick.
One ran away, and the other stepped forward.
Clayton decided what to do with just a glance. He took a step forward and punched the back of the escapee. The two thugs who disagreed with each other collided with each other, and their falling bodies knocked down the coat rack and broke the wooden pole. The cabinet behind was even more pitiful, directly smashed by their heads and stained with red dirt.
When they got up again, they had a unified consensus in their hearts, and they struggled to run away from the back door without looking back.
Clayton did not chase after them, because daytime was not a good time to do something. He just slowly walked to the broken cabinet, reached out and smeared their blood on his fingers, sniffed it under his nose, and pulled a cruel smile at the corner of his mouth that was unknown to others.
This scene was not seen by his niece and the strange lady.
It was not until the fighting ended that Seranie upstairs remembered to breathe. She watched the strange figure walk up the stairs with fear and stopped a few steps away from her. She could already see the blood on the other person's fist.
"Donna." Clayton waved to his niece, "Why did you walk so far? If you feel bored, we will have many ways to relieve boredom after returning to the city. You just have to endure it for a few more days."
This kind of coaxing words can't make Donna happy. The girl calmed down. She walked down two steps with the wall and looked at her uncle.
"I'm not here to have fun. I want to investigate something. Thanks to this lady, I already have some clues about the things we wanted to know before."
Hearing her say this, Clayton focused his attention on Seranie.
"Who is this lady?"
"Seranie." Seranie smiled reluctantly.
Donna said her father was a businessman, but she only knew that some merchants who made a living by renting coins had such rapid action.
"Nice to meet you, Ms. Seranie. Thank you for taking care of my daughter during this time." Clayton stretched out his hand and shook her hand, but he had a bad feeling in his heart. "I just heard her say that you know Eamon Meg?"
"No"
Selane shook her head to deny, but she was interrupted before she finished speaking.
Donna moved, she grabbed Clayton's arm, and the strength on her fingers tightened: "Just ask me about this matter, there is no need to bother Ms. Seranie anymore."
Clayton looked at her in surprise, only to find that his distrust seemed to be noticed by her.
He temporarily avoided this topic. He turned to look at Seranie.
A standard blonde beauty, but her makeup looked too heavy, her clothes were not very regular, and she had a haggard temperament, and the smell of mixed cigarettes was lingering on her.
This familiar feeling not only reminded him of a profession that he frequently came into contact with during his short leave during the war.
Frequently facing the horror of death will make soldiers gradually go crazy, and being away from home and inhumane training will make them feel distressed all the time. In order to relieve the pressure, they have to find women who are willing to open their arms for money to release themselves.
Clayton was also one of these ordinary people, so he is quite familiar with such women.
Facing Seranie's own situation, he did not ask the root of the matter. When he entered the door, he saw that she was protecting Donna behind her. Therefore, even if her social status was low, he could not help but respect her.
After hearing Donna explain the cause and effect of the attack just now, he nodded slightly to Seranie.
"You took care of my daughter, I owe you a favor. Is there anything you want?"
Seranie said without hesitation: "I want to leave here." She looked back at the bedroom and suddenly felt a little reluctant. She was not ready to welcome a new life.
But it will soon become unsafe here. Donna's father can't stay forever, and those thugs will come again. Because of this conflict, their revenge will definitely be more fierce, which will be a consequence she can't bear.
Clayton could certainly understand this: "No problem, I will book a room for you at the hotel, you can come over after you pack your luggage."
Selani didn't hesitate and went straight into the bedroom to pack her belongings.
"Let me help you." Donna took the initiative to roll up her sleeves and walked in. Now Clayton had to join in, even though he didn't think it was that urgent.
Before that, a bird had already taken their instructions and flew to the hotel. Julius would prepare the new room in advance.
With the concerted efforts of the three people, Seranie's most important things were finally sorted out. They dragged four boxes across the street back to the hotel, and Seranie quickly adapted to the room here.
Julius looked at the uncle and nephew strangely in the corridor on the second floor, and he didn't speak until Seranie closed the door.
"What did you do just now? Why did you find a woman? What does she do?" His eyes were always on Clayton.
Donna coughed a few times: "I found this lady."
Julius turned his head immediately.
"Why are you looking for her?"
"Hmph, thanks to this lady, I have already found out important information about the mastermind behind the leatherworker."
The wizard looked at Clayton, tapping his hand on the railing: "Is what she said true?"
"I haven't learned about this yet, I'll talk about it later. Now I owe this lady a favor." Clayton said. "You don't have to worry about her at ordinary times, just say hello to her when we set out to return to the city."
He finished speaking hurriedly and walked downstairs quickly.
The presence of those thugs in the slums made his appetite surge, and Pei Lun's sheepfold soon lost another sheep.
Pei Lun carried the "lucky guy" he ordered to the small open space outside the kitchen, turned around and took a look at the sheep in the backyard, which was much sparser than before Clayton came, and at least eight sheep were slaughtered in the past two weeks.
"You really like to eat meat."
The innkeeper sighed, and then skillfully slaughtered the lamb in his hand in the open space. The rest of the sheep looked at this place coldly, and some even lowered their heads to lick the blood spreading on the ground.
Clayton had seen this scene many times, and he sighed every time.
But no matter how much he sighed, it was impossible to relieve his appetite.
"Leave the entrails to me this time, I will take them fishing in a few days. Well, rotten meat is very popular with fish."
Pei Lun nodded, and took the intestines and liver out of the opened sheep cavity with his bare hands and put them aside.
However, someone soon came to find them again.
"Mr. Bello? Pei Lun?"
The messenger walked through the lobby and kitchen to the backyard, and was relieved when he saw them: "Thank God, you are all here, the mayor and Father Louis invite you to go over."
"I want to go too?" Pei Lun pointed at himself in surprise.
Clayton Bello was the sheriff in the city, but he was just the owner of this old hotel. Who else would look for him?
Clayton glanced at him and suddenly remembered the Savior Army who returned to the town. These two things might have some connection.
"Yes, you have to go too. It seems that there is something that needs your proof. I don't know more." The man ran away again after saying that, as if he had other things to do.
Pei Lun looked at Clayton, who nodded: "I will go and inform my family first, and then go with you right away."
When he came down, Pei Lun had taken off his apron and leaned on the counter with a restless look. It was not until Clayton reminded him that he woke up and took the guest to the mayor's office.
The political center of Gevo is not very eye-catching. It is just a three-story building with no decoration. It looks like a converted building material warehouse. Next to it is a huge public barn, which is 18 feet high and almost comparable to the railway company's carriage parking station. The white walls have turned yellow.
When Clayton and Pei Lun arrived, the small building was already crowded with people.
Many local residents gathered around, arguing with the Saviors in dissatisfaction. The patrols also gathered here, glaring at the Saviors. Schmidt was still in the hands of the defeated soldiers from the city, and they used him as a hostage to intimidate the locals not to approach.
The two sides were separated by a distance, and some people had to enter the public barn because there was no place to stand.
Clayton and Perron passed through the two opposing parties and walked straight into the small building. There was a very old servant inside, and when he saw him, he ran very slowly, barely able to walk ahead of them.
"Master, Mr. Bello and Mr. Perron are here." He shouted hoarsely.
The meeting room was on the third floor. Clayton had already smelled the smell of the participants. At Perron's reminder, he quickened his pace and passed the old servant and went upstairs directly. The most important people in the town were already waiting there.
A mahogany round table was placed in the meeting room, and there were a total of four people sitting around it, most of whom Clayton already knew.
Father Louis, Francis, a patrolman - but he couldn't call his name, and the remaining person should be the mayor, with aging white hair, slightly bald, and an impatient face.
Except for Father Louis, everyone here is smoking.
"This is Mr. Bello."
Mayor Jeffrey looked at Clayton, but quickly shifted his gaze and did not continue to talk to him. Instead, he looked at Francis: "Very good, the legal experts and the former owners of the property rights have arrived, and we will soon figure it all out."
"What happened?" Pei Lun asked puzzled. And this is what Clayton wanted to know.
The mayor held out his hand to Francis: "In short, this Mr. Ravenlaier had his men capture Mr. Schmidt and torture him, and he claimed that this was completely legal, and he had evidence to prove it."
