Chapter 305 Actively Preparing for War

"Is it over?!" He hadn't figured out what was going on with these dwarves, but he could see the huge pit that swallowed hundreds of people in one breath.

Just one collapse, and all the warriors and wizards that gave him a headache disappeared.

It was obviously some kind of alchemical explosive that caused this situation, and the underground was full of holes to achieve this effect.

And these dwarves didn't know where they came from. There were at least a hundred dwarves cheering loudly. Since leaving the army, Clayton had never seen so many dwarves gathered together.

They piled together, smelly and hot.

He was shocked to find that he knew too little about this country.

"How is it possible?" Although he asked this question, there was still uncontrollable joy in the eyes on the scarecrow's beard. "Edwards has not been completely solved, and these people are just temporarily trapped underground. They may climb up later. Next, we have to..."

Dang! Dang! Dang! Dang!

The bronze bell used for timekeeping in the center of this country suddenly rang.

The scarecrow's face changed drastically, turned around and jumped up and punched Clayton in the chest.

"Didn't you say you called everyone here?!"

This was just to vent his anger. He didn't wait for a reply. As soon as he landed, he rushed to the hourglass with other dwarves.

The dwarves were very strong. Clayton felt a pain in his chest and felt as if several bones were broken, but he didn't have time to think about revenge. He and Donna followed them to the center of the town.

There, two bell guards responsible for telling time for the whole country stood by the hourglass and looked at them indifferently.

Without explaining anything to anyone, the bell ringer continued to work, and another bell guard took off a horn from his waist and put it in front of his mouth after seeing the dwarf.

A dwarf threw the hammer in his hand at him, and the solid iron block smashed the bell guard's head in an instant, but the horn floated in the air and rang by itself. The sound was so loud that it seemed to fill the entire sky, and even the clouds began to shake, and everyone covered their ears.

Woo——

The dull and hollow sound lasted for about ten seconds and then stopped.

The horn rolled on the ground for a few times before Clayton recovered from the shocking sound.

But then, another horn sounded in the sky in response.

The person who blew the horn seemed to be very far away, so the sound effect was not so shocking, but the consistency of the two sounds could still be heard.

"What is that?" Clayton's ears turned, and he tried to find the direction of the sound, but to no avail.

The scarecrow chased and knocked down the remaining timekeepers, and then looked at Clayton angrily.

"Damn, Edwards really didn't tell you anything. His army is stationed on the outskirts of this country. Now they hear the summons and will rush back immediately."

"There are still troops here?"

"Nonsense! Have you ever seen a country without an army?" The scarecrow roared again and rushed back to the castle with other dwarves.

Inside the castle, close to the parade ground, there is the country's only armory. Clayton also knows this, but it has always been locked.

The door of the armory is very thick, and the key connection positions are all wrapped in iron. It doesn't look like an entrance that can be forced through.

The oldest dwarves in the team shouted "Arm yourself and prepare for battle!", but a group of dwarves could not push the door open even if they joined together. The hammers and pickaxes in their hands could only make very shallow pits on the door.

The scarecrow suddenly reacted and turned around to grab Clayton: "You are the king, you should know where the key to the armory is, right?"

Clayton silently stretched out a hand and pointed to the big pit outside the window.

The palace steward who was responsible for all the keys just fell down with others in the collapse.

"It's over now." A dwarf sat on the ground decadently, looking even shorter.

No matter how strong they are, the equipment on hand is not enough to fight a fully armed army head-on. Without the protection of armor, they can easily be dismembered and lose the ability to continue fighting.

"No." Hohom suddenly put his face against the door, and his short hands fumbled around it: "Edwards doesn't trust anyone at all. He must have left a secret door nearby. Make sure you can open it without the key. Come and look for it."

A group of dwarves spread out around, squatting or lying on their stomachs to find possible mechanisms under the walls and carpets.

Donna looked up and gave Clayton a look for advice. He nodded, so the girl stepped forward, passed through the dwarves and came to the door, using the wizard's spiritual knowledge to scan the surroundings.

"Here." She knocked on a brick on the wall on the side of the door: "It can be opened here."

As she said, she used the long sword she used in previous practice as a crowbar to pry open the brick. There was an extremely narrow hole behind it.

"That's the door left for his familiar. This is really over." The scarecrow said in annoyance.

It's difficult to put your hand into this hole, let alone open the door. Only the thief worm who is good at shrinking the body and can shuttle freely in various rock cracks can pass through here.

Donna blinked and took out a snake from the side pocket of her skirt. This was a gift from Clayton. She chanted a spell in front of everyone, then closed her eyes. The snake in her hand suddenly moved and scurried into the narrow hole.

After a while, the sound of mechanical operation sounded behind the door.

The iron-clad door slowly rose, and the dwarves rushed in. Only a few of them remembered to say thank you to Donna.

There were no strange things in the armory, only ordinary armor, weapons and shields, but this was enough for a group of dwarves with tenacious fighting spirit.

The dwarves who arrived early put on breastplates and arm armors, carried spears and rushed out of the armory again, and their fellow tribesmen followed.

Clayton also squeezed in and took a few sets of equipment to distribute to Louis and Donna.

Although it was a bit abrupt, they were now on the same side as these dwarves, at least before Edwards was dealt with, so it was best to resist Edwards' army with these people.

The dwarves rushed to the street, and most of them gathered together to form a spear phalanx to deal with enemies who might rush from the front and back ends of the street.

Some dwarves climbed onto the roof, holding bows and arrows to guard against enemies who might come at any time.

Uncle and nephew Bello and Louis followed them on horseback.

This behavior was not very popular, but in view of Donna's previous actions, they were not expelled.

Later, at Louis's strong request, the scarecrow reluctantly told them about Edwards' army.

This is a shame for the dwarves here, because Edwards' most capable subordinates are also dwarves.

Not all Morrells attempted to rebel against Edwards. One-fifth of them joined Edwards after the old king was transformed into a demon, either to protect their families or because they had conflicts with other people of the same clan. Only a very small number of people did so out of desire for power.

But these reasons are no longer important. They have served Edwards for hundreds of years, so they deserve to die just like Edwards.

The dwarves hate betrayers.

And this group of betrayers occupies half of Edwards' army.

The general of this army is the old king's son Basham. He did not inherit the old king's will to resist, but completely turned to Edwards.

"Edwards needs them to preserve their strength, so he did not use the power of the devil to control them, but he did not trust them, so he sent the army far away."

"Then why did he still form an army?" Clayton asked.

The scarecrow stared at him: "To fight against guys like you, and the residents he expelled from here before."

"In Wonderland, there are still some creatures that have the ability to kill others, and Edwards has offended them, so he needs the army to surround the country and is in a hurry to leave here."

Clayton wanted to ask more, but he suddenly saw a kite appear in the sky.

The kite looked like it was made of a mirror, with a smooth mirror surface, and a dwarf stood inside and looked at them seriously.

The rebels also noticed the kite and started to make a fuss.

"That's Basham's servant. He is using a strange object to observe here, which means his master is coming soon." The scarecrow gritted his teeth. They, the laborers, have lived underground for a long time, and there are supervisors around them. They have no chance to touch strange objects.

When the strength of the two armies is almost the same, the information gap will be the key to determining victory or defeat.

And they lack such means.

Clayton noticed that the dwarf in the kite saw the big pit in the direction of the parade ground, and there was a surprised expression on his face.

He suddenly felt that this might be an opportunity.

"Maybe we don't need to fight. No one wants to always listen to other people's orders. Now Edwards is nowhere to go, and the army is in Basham's own hands. If you are willing to publish your method of fighting against the devil's power, maybe there is a chance to persuade him to fight against Edwards with us."

"Hahahahaha"

The dwarves' formation was disrupted by this suggestion, and they burst into laughter.

"Impossible, we never compromise, don't even think about it."

"Even if you want to convince them, it's impossible. That kite can only be used to transmit images, not sounds." A more rational dwarf analyzed the feasibility of this plan and gave a negative conclusion. "And even if it can transmit sounds, it's useless. In the fairyland, the power of language only works when you are face to face. You don't know our language and can't communicate with him at all."

But Clayton still wants to try.

He just learned the name Basham through a conversation with these dwarves. At least the pronunciation is universal. Maybe he can ask to meet Basham through lip reading.

Then it depends on body language communication.

No matter how many countries and races there are in the world, body language will not be too different, because the body structure of human beings is similar.

Clayton did not think that this attempt would fail. Perhaps Prince Bathum still had some resistance in his heart.
