Chapter 566: Hypothesis of the End of the Universe
The hypothesis of the end of the universe seems useless to the current human beings, and it seems to be a false and empty theory, but it is not. The development of a scientific and technological civilization is inseparable from the development of basic science, and the correct universe model is the booster and guide for the development of civilization.
The so-called stones in the river of feeling the stones, the cosmological model is one of the so-called stones. It will give scientists in many fields inspiration and reference for thinking methods, and even allow scientists to deduce what kind of applied technology should be possessed at the stage of civilization.
Just like this unfinished particle collider, if there is no cosmological model, then human beings will not know or will not think of using it to collide with the cosmic environment where the strong interaction force is not symmetric and use it to study the grand unified theory.
As for the hypothesis of the end of the universe, there are three mainstream views within human civilization, namely the big tear, big collapse, and big freeze mentioned above, also known as the heat death theory.
The heat death theory has been mentioned before. There are five stages in total, the primitive period, the period of stars, the degenerate period, the black hole period, and the dark period. This is a cosmological model derived from the third law of thermodynamics. The primitive period and the star period are basically similar to other cosmological models, so I will not elaborate on them.
The so-called third stage degeneration period in the heat death theory says that the energy of the stars in the universe is exhausted, and all the stars finally turn into lifeless and dead nuclear matter in the form of dwarf stars, neutron stars, and black holes. The stars in the starry sky no longer shine, and the universe gradually falls into darkness.
Going back to the fourth stage black hole period, the only energy in the universe is the energy of black hole evaporation. All intelligent life that has not yet become extinct may be like homeless people, sitting around the last black hole embers that are about to go out, absorbing the last bit of warmth until the black holes evaporate.
As for the final fifth stage dark period, as the name suggests, even the black holes have evaporated, and even the protons themselves have completely decayed. Only a floating sea of photons and a thin soup of particles that interact weakly with each other, namely neutrinos, electrons and their antiparticles, etc., are left in the universe.
Of course, this idea also faces insurmountable difficulties. Although the size of positronium atoms can be comparable to that of ordinary atoms, the diameter of positronium atoms in the dark age will reach 3.26*10 to the 12th power million light years, which is millions of times larger than the visible universe measured by humans in the current era of stars.
So in the dark age, even if life has its last spring, these new lives will be as big as the entire universe. Of course, by then, the universe has expanded to a greater limit, which makes it easy to accommodate these new lives. However, even so, these new lives will be due to the large size of positronium atoms, and any "chemical reactions" based on these "atoms" will also be carried out on an astonishing scale.
It can be imagined that it will be a universe completely different from human cognition.
At this time, the universe may have the last spring of life, because time goes forward, it is absolute thermal equilibrium, and the universe will eventually be dead, heat death, cosmic freeze, absolute zero, and dead silence without any energy fluctuations.
Scientists speculate that the cosmic environment during the dark age may be composed of a new "atom" called positronium, which is composed of electrons and positrons that rotate in opposite directions.
Scientists who adhere to this hypothesis believe that this "atom" composed of electrons and anti-electrons may become the basic condition for the formation of new intelligent life during the dark age.
They even believe that there may be a kind of life based on positronium in the current universe, and because of the cosmic environment, the positronium in the starry age is not as large as the dark age, so the life formed on this basis will not be as large as the entire universe, but will be like the life composed of atoms in the starry age.
Of course, there are differences. According to the theory of the dark age in the heat death hypothesis and the characteristics of positronium, scientists speculate that the life born on the basis of atoms formed by positronium must be completely different from the life forms currently recognized by humans, and it is very likely that it is a kind of life form that is naturally adapted to the cosmic environment.
In order to make their views accepted by more people, these scientists also brought out the awakeners and pioneers to the platform, because the awakeners and the rhombus crystals representing the pioneers at the time said the words "group technological civilization" to humans.
Although neither of them directly said that there are still single civilizations in the universe, if there are no single civilizations or they have not seen single civilizations, then there is no need to add a "group" in front of scientific and technological civilization.
These scientists believe that the "single civilization" hidden in the language of the awakener and the rhombus crystal representing the pioneer may be a life form based on positronium atoms.
Of course, humans do not know how life or even intelligent life based on positronium atoms exist in the universe of the starry era, after all, they have never seen it. But there is no doubt that the cosmological model of the heat death theory does provide scientists with such an idea, allowing humans to accept the possibility of the existence of single civilizations in theory.
It can be seen from this that perfecting the cosmological model is not useless, on the contrary, it plays a very important role, but ordinary people who do not participate in scientific research do not realize it.
Not only that, the correct cosmological model may also allow humans to deduce the so-called destination of the Great Voyage. Human scientists believe that the Great Voyage that the sixth-level civilization has no choice but to choose must be related to the end of the universe or a certain ultimate answer.
If the end of the universe is like this, where should life and civilization go?
Scientists believe that behind each hypothesis of the end of the universe, it will directly affect the advanced civilization. Oh no, perhaps it should be said that the behavior of the god-level civilization.
If the end of the universe is really as predicted by the heat death hypothesis, then in the end no intelligent life will be able to survive, and even in the dark age, no civilization can survive in the form of the Star Age. So what will those god-level civilizations who see such an end do?
Do they transform themselves into a form that adapts to the environment, and survive in a state close to absolute zero as a minimum, in the form of pure consciousness, and at the expense of thinking speed? Or do they find another way to find a way to prevent the heat death of the universe?
The heat death ending at the end of the Big Freeze is indeed a headache, but it is a problem that every life that recognizes the universe has to face. Perhaps this ending is the eternal life of the god of death.
Death is immortal, and death can be defined as the final cessation of processing all information. For any intelligent species in the universe, from the moment they begin to understand the basic laws of physics, they will be forced to realize that any intelligent life that the universe is likely to contain will eventually die.
Fortunately, the intelligent life in the Star Age still has time, and they may try to find the answer in the long time to come, to find out whether the physics of this universe allows them to continue to survive.
