Chapter 372 Quidditch World Cup 1
The 1994 Quidditch World Cup, the joint examinations of Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang, were two major events in the wizarding world in succession. But beneath this grand event, there are hidden dangers and the threat of Voldemort.
The darkness seems to be getting closer, maybe tomorrow, maybe right before our eyes.
The even breathing sounds of Hermione and Ginny came from the bedroom, and Ada slowly fell asleep. But Ada only felt that as soon as she fell asleep, Mrs. Weasley appeared in the bedroom and woke up Hermione and Ginny.
The reason why Ada was not woken up was because Ada had already taken the Apparition test in advance. Like Bill, Charlie, and Percy, she could rush to the competition venue by Apparating.
But, can Ada really continue to sleep? The answer is of course not. How could Fred and George watch Ada continue to sleep while they had to get up early?
So, an alarm clock was thrown into the bedroom. The ringing alarm clock drove away Ada's sleepiness, and she had no choice but to rub her eyes and walk into the kitchen.
It was dark outside the window, and the lights were on in the kitchen. Everyone was too sleepy to keep their eyes open. Mrs. Weasley was stirring something in a large pot on the stove. Mr. Weasley was sitting at the table, checking a bunch of parchment paper. A huge ticket.
After having breakfast, if eating before dawn was considered breakfast, the group of people left the Burrow under the moonlight.
The air was cold and the moon was still high in the sky. Only a faint gray-green appeared on the horizon to their right, indicating that dawn was gradually approaching.
Mr. Weasley walked in the front. Harry kept asking questions like a curious baby, while Mr. Weasley patiently explained the organization of the World Cup.
Mr. Weasley looked back from time to time to make sure the sleepy children were not left behind. But Mr. Weasley's worries were unnecessary. As soon as the cold wind blew, everyone woke up immediately. Ada, who was left behind, tightened her jacket.
They trudged along the dark, damp path through the village of Ottery St. Catchpole. There was silence all around, except for the sound of their own footsteps.
When they began to climb over Stoat Mountain, the sky finally got a little brighter, and the original pitch black gradually turned into a deep blue, which prevented them from tripping down the rabbit hole under their feet.
Half a summer's exercise still paid off, and Ada was not the last to climb to the top of the mountain. The last one was Hermione. One of the little girl's hands was tightly grasping the skirt of her clothes.
"Hey," Mr. Weasley took off his glasses, wiped them with his jersey, and said breathlessly, "Yes, we arrived on time, there are still ten minutes..."
Everyone scattered and searched for the door key. Seeing Ada standing on the top of the mountain with a look of reluctance on her face, Fred and George finally gained a balance, and they forgave a little bit of Ada's "betrayal".
After a while, there was a call from a strange man, and he told everyone to go. That was Amos Diggory, Cedric's father, whose family also lived near the village of St. Catchpole.
Unlike Cedric, Mr. Diggory seemed to be a chatterbox, and from the first moment he met him, he kept chattering away.
"Arthur, are these your children?"
Amos Diggory asked, looking at the group of boys and girls standing there. The Diggory family only had one child, Cedric, and the Weasley family...well...had a Quidditch team.
"Oh, no, it's the red-haired one and the blond-haired one." Mr. Weasley pointed out his children one by one, including Ada. "This is Hermione, Ron's friend; this is Harry, Also Ron’s friend.”
Mr. Diggory's eyes widened when he heard Harry's name, and he kept talking about the time Cedric defeated Harry in the game, the day when the dementors accidentally broke into the competition venue.
Unlike the chattering and proud Mr. Diggory, Cedric blushed with embarrassment. He moved closer to Ada and the twins and whispered sorry to Harry in a low voice.
In that game, both Ceddic and Harry were affected by the dementors, but Cedric was not affected that much, so Cedric always felt that he was somewhat invincible.
Hufflepuff's noble qualities, Cedric's noble qualities, it is for this reason that Ada will accept Cedric and be friends with him.
Ada suggested in a low voice: "Ced, do you need help? I can shut up Mr. Diggory immediately. It will be safe and painless."
Cedric immediately shook his head. He didn't believe Ada's words of safety and painlessness. He was a violent person! Fortunately, Cedric's embarrassment didn't last long, because the time for the portkey was coming soon.
Ten people gathered around the old boot that Mr. Diggory had found, each holding out a finger and touching the dirty old boot as Mr. Weasley counted down.
Then, everyone disappeared in place under the influence of the portkey, flying forward like a gust of wind.
After an unknown amount of time, they finally landed on the ground again. The solid ground gave them a sense of security. Only four people were still standing, Mr. Weasley, Mr. Diggory, Ada and Cedric, the others fell to the ground.
Ada frowned and took care of her hair again. Her long golden hair was blown askew by the wind. Ada felt that she must look like a crazy woman with disheveled hair now.
I shouldn't have gotten up, I shouldn't have chosen the Portkey. Isn't it delicious to Apparate? Five o'clock and seven o'clock, the time they got here was five o'clock and seven o'clock. This is how much sleep they have lost!
After passing through the deserted swamp, they met a Muggle in front of a small stone house. This Muggle was the warden of this camp. He felt strange about the wizards wearing strange clothes.
In order to keep the game concealed, the wizards who came to watch the game were required to wear Muggle clothes, which caused the wizards on the field to become strange.
Looking at these "monsters", Ada felt that their brains must have been eaten by ghouls. Even if she couldn't tell the difference between Muggle clothes, men and women could always be distinguished, right? You can always tell them apart from skirts and pants, right?
But these wizards told Ada that they couldn't tell the difference. It’s no longer strange to see people walking around in women’s skirts. Ada even saw an uncle wearing black fishnet stockings, with thick leg hair peeking out from the stockings. It was really eye-catching!
There is a clearing next to the woods at the end of the field, and a small sign stuck in the ground reads: Wedsley.
Although the name was spelled wrong, this was the camping site that Mr. Weasley had booked in advance, and Ada finally no longer had to be persecuted by wizards in fancy clothes.
At Mr. Weasley's strong request, they set up two crooked two-person tents in the Muggle way. These two tents were borrowed by Mr. Weasley from his colleagues in the office. The tents may look small on the outside, but they are actually full of things inside, including bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and living rooms.
Fred and George immediately ran to the table and took up two chairs. They put their feet on the table.
"Get your feet off the table," said Mr. Weasley. "We need some water..."
"Take your feet off the table." The twins repeated their father's words in unison while taking their feet off the table, but when Mr. Weasley's attention was not on them, the two of them again Put your feet up.
The sun had just risen and the mist gradually dissipated. The campers on the site gradually woke up, and there were more and more strange people. Ada saw another eye-catching scene.
A male wizard with about the same height and waist, he actually wore a women's silk nightgown, and in this nightgown, Ada thought she saw Umbridge.
Beside the tent, Mr. Weasley was playing with matches obsessively. He struck a match, then threw it away with a scream, as if he was frightened by the sudden fire. A box of matches was quickly used up by him.
Ada meets Mr. Crouch, whom Percy longs for, for the first time. Barty Crouch was about fifty years old, wearing a spotless crisp suit, his hair was neatly styled, and his mustache looked like it had been trimmed with a sliding rule.
At first glance, you can tell that Crouch is difficult to get along with, and he is a rigid and rigorous person.
And this is also true. Every word he says seems to emphasize laws and regulations. I'm afraid it's precisely because of this that he would send his son to Azkaban out of righteousness!
Percy wanted to show off to his boss, and he entertained Mr. Crouch hospitably, but Barty Crouch called him by the wrong name, calling him Weatherby.
Fred and George laughed so much that they almost squirted their tea into their cups. This was something the twins would remember for the rest of their lives. Percy's ears turned pink and he pretended to be immersed in taking care of the teapot, losing his previous enthusiasm.
After Ludo Bagman and Barty Crouch left, Fred finally couldn't bear it anymore. He immediately asked: "What's going on at Hogwarts now, Dad?"
"You'll find out soon enough," Mr. Weasley said with a smile, continuing to maintain the mystery.
"This is a secret. We won't know until the ministry decides to make it public." Percy said seriously, "Mr. Crouch is right not to leak secrets easily."
"Oh, shut up, Weatherby," said Fred.
As soon as Weatherby came out, everyone burst into laughter, and Percy shrank back to the teapot in embarrassment. Percy's actions made everyone laugh louder, and Ginny laughed so much that her stomach hurt.
Ada wiped the tears from laughter from her eyes and said, "If you two are willing to talk to me, I will tell you what the secret is?"
Everyone stopped laughing, but they didn't look at Ada, but looked directly at the twins, and it was obvious what they wanted to express.
"Okay, let's compromise," Fred said. "You win, my dear Head Girl."
Ada tilted her head and pointed at Fred, and she said: "Watch your words, Mr. Weasley, you have something to ask of me now."
Fred was immediately criticized by everyone, and Percy's repeated mention of it really whetted everyone's appetite.
"Well, Ada, what's the secret?" George asked softly. Although the words were very gentle, the threat behind the words could not be hidden. If Ada couldn't tell the reason, the twins would definitely look good on her.
Ada imitated Percy's example and cleared her throat, and said solemnly: "After school starts, Hogwarts will host the Triwizard Tournament..."
The news of the joint entrance examination of the three schools immediately aroused everyone's discussion, and everyone expressed their intention to participate in the competition. Even the youngest Ginny was eager to try. It wasn't until Mr. Weasley told everyone that this event was dangerous that everyone lost their enthusiasm.
Unlike others who wanted to sign up enthusiastically, Harry was very quiet. He didn't want to sign up, let alone participate. If possible, Harry would like to spend each school year in peace.
