Chapter 75 God’s Descent
Thunder and fire surged, black fog filled the air, and such scenes were truly horrifying.
The people in Jinling City had long since closed their doors, and the Taoist priests in charge of clearing the "gift" in the city could not help but look up at the sky, speechless.
Anyone could see that a great change had occurred in Jinling City, and it was no longer as simple as the demons of Zhimingjiao spreading curses.
Bai Yingqiong was very sure that this was indeed a divine descent.
As the chief deputy lord of Jiangnan Daofu, although Bai Yingqiong was not among the thirty-six chazhizhenren, he was qualified to attend the Jinque and was among the 108 people who could listen. He had already entered the upper echelons of Taoism, so he knew many secrets.
The "ancient immortals" in the Daoist sect refer to the gods and immortals of ancient times.
As for why it is gods and immortals, rather than heavenly immortals, earthly immortals, human immortals, ghost immortals or corpse immortals, it is because gods and immortals are the only immortals who can stay in the world for a long time.
As for other immortals, they have to pass the catastrophe when the hundred-year period is over. If they can pass it, they can stay in the human world for another hundred years. If they can't pass it, they will die. If you are not sure, it is better to ascend to heaven and leave the world as soon as possible before the catastrophe comes. Therefore, there are people who are immortal in this world, but few who can stay in the human world for a long time.
Even if you pass the catastrophe, the second catastrophe in the next hundred years will be more fierce, and the third catastrophe will be more fierce than the second one. There will always be a time when you can't survive. If you regard the human world or the way of heaven as a person, its intention is probably very obvious. The human world does not allow the existence of immortals. Either leave or die.
The only exception is the gods.
The gods are the only immortals who can stay in the human world for a long time, and they are also the only immortals who cannot ascend to heaven and leave the world.
The gods are the outliers among the five immortals. They use external willpower to transform into divine power, cast golden bodies, and are called gods in the world. Then they open up the kingdom of gods and feed on incense and willpower. There is no limit to the hundred-year period.
However, the gods are also extremely dependent on the power of incense and vows. If the incense is cut off, the golden body will be covered with dust, and then gradually decay, the kingdom of God will be ruined, and they can only linger, and finally the golden body will decay, the kingdom of God will collapse, and they will fall.
However, if the incense is prosperous, the gods will also benefit greatly, the golden body will not be damaged, and the divine power will be immeasurable. If the believers can reach millions, they can even compete with the heavenly immortals in their own kingdom of God without losing. Overall, gods and other immortals have their own advantages and disadvantages. Other immortals are the way of transcendence, which is to cultivate themselves, while gods are the way of entering the world, which is to cultivate others.
Without the power of incense and vows, the gods are like water without a source and trees without roots. No matter how powerful they are, they will eventually fall.
This involves another question-why did these ancient gods oppose Taoism.
Because the ancient immortals are all people who have returned from the dead. When they dominated the world, the Dao Sect had not yet flourished. When they returned to the world, the Dao Sect had already unified the world and there was no place for them to stand. In order to compete for incense, they had to be enemies with the Dao Sect. The Dao Sect was also unable to recruit all the ancient immortals.
Immortals have three deaths.
The first death is the decay and collapse of the golden body. This is just a false death, just like the river is cut off and the lake is dry. As long as there is new incense and willpower, the golden body can be rebuilt in the kingdom of God.
The second death is the collapse of the kingdom of God. This is real death, but it has not died out. There is still a little spiritual mark in the dark. As long as someone still remembers this immortal, there is a chance to come back again.
The third death is that everyone has forgotten this immortal, then even the last mark will completely dissipate, and it will be dead and can't die again.
From this point of view, immortals are more difficult to eliminate than earth immortals, ghost immortals, and human immortals. Whether it was Wu Luo or Siming Zhenjun, they were only in the first stage of death, that is, their golden bodies decayed and collapsed, while the kingdom of God still existed, and they entered a state of suspended death. Thousands of years later, they reshaped their golden bodies due to some opportunities and reappeared in the world again. At that time, Buddhism and Taoism were fighting, which not only stagnated the process of Xuansheng integrating the three internal ways, but also allowed these returning ancient immortals to take the opportunity to grow and develop. Even in order to restrain Taoism, Buddhism was secretly supporting the ancient immortals, which was a far-reaching disaster. Many people in Taoism gnashed their teeth when talking about Buddhism. If it were not for Buddhism, there would not be so many internal and external troubles today.
As for why Buddhism secretly helped the ancient immortals to restrain Taoism, instead of Taoism supporting these ancient immortals to fight against Buddhism, it was because the way of God had already declined in Taoism, but was carried forward in Buddhism. Buddhism was far superior to Taoism in the attainments of God. In order to restrain Taoism, Buddhism personally helped the ancient immortals through the most difficult early stage, and the ancient immortals also reciprocated and helped Buddhism fight against Taoism.
Because of this, the Daoists redeveloped Shintoism in the process of the dispute between Buddhism and Taoism, established the inheritance of witches and expanded the group of spiritual officials.
In terms of Shinto attainments, in order to ensure the immortality of the kingdom of God, the Buddhists took the souls of believers into their own kingdom of God, so that they could be reborn in the kingdom of God and live forever with the kingdom of God. Some of them seemed to be immortal, but in fact they were not free. It was just that ordinary believers were ignorant and did not feel constrained, but instead thought it was a great gift.
Therefore, there were always countless Buddhist children in the Buddha's kingdom of Buddha. In the words of Buddhism, there were as many as the sands of Ganges. These so-called Buddhist children chanted scriptures day and night to keep the kingdom of God from declining and to continuously strengthen the golden body of the Buddha.
However, the divine realm is eternal and unchanging. Whether it is believers or Buddhist disciples, repeating the same thing for thousands of years will inevitably lead to numbness. Numbness means no piety, and the power of wishes that can be provided will be greatly weakened. Therefore, Buddhism created the six reincarnations, so that believers in the Buddhist realm can be reborn continuously, wash away past memories, start anew, and rejuvenate, so that they will naturally not be numb. This is the paradise.
The world of Posa goes a step further, allowing believers to be reborn in the human world as ghosts and immortals, and return to the Buddhist realm after a hundred years of experience in the human world. The running water does not rot, and the door hinge does not rot. And these people are often people with great wisdom and perseverance. After returning to the Buddhist realm, they are no longer as simple as ordinary Buddhist disciples, but will become subordinates of the Buddha, and even become Vajra, Arhat and the like.
Therefore, Buddhists believe in the afterlife. In a sense, this is indeed the afterlife, but how much difference there is between this afterlife and eternal liberation is a matter of opinion.
Because of this, people in the Taoist sect never believe in reincarnation. It is either the possession of ghosts and immortals or the reincarnation of Buddhism. How can there be reincarnation? Therefore, the Taoist sect always believes that after a person dies, the soul returns to the earth, and the three corpses turn into ghosts. Being able to actively kill the three corpses is an incredible supernatural power.
Back to the way of Shinto, because the world does not allow immortals to exist for a long time, whether it is the Buddha of Buddhism or the immortals of Taoism, although they can stay in the world for a long time, they also need to abide by some of the rules of the hundred-year period, that is, before the expiration of the hundred-year period, they can still appear in the world at will, but after a hundred years, they cannot interfere in the world at will, and they need to pay a certain price every time they take action.
This is why the gods of many sects often show miracles at the beginning of the creation of religions, but the miracles become less and less in the later period.
Since Siming Zhenjun is an ancient immortal, he has naturally passed the hundred-year period long ago, so if he wants to come to the world from the kingdom of God, he must perform a huge ceremony of descending from the gods.
According to the specifications of the ceremony of descending from the gods, the power of the gods to descend to the world is also different.
For example, in the Yulan Temple in the Yishan City, it was the lowest level of the gods' descent, and Wu Luo only descended a little divine power. At the Kunlun Pass, the level of the gods' descent was higher. Wu Luo used the outline of the mountains and rivers to project and broke the flying boat at will. When he arrived at Cowinbu, Wu Luo's descent was more powerful. He no longer used the outline of the mountains and rivers to project. He directly condensed the divine body with divine power, destroyed "Yinglong", and killed Shangguan Jing.
As for the descent of Siming Zhenjun to Jinling Mansion this time, its specifications were only slightly inferior to the direct descent of the immortal golden body to the human world and the manifestation of the kingdom of God to the human world. It was at the third level, that is, it appeared in the human world through a container.
There are many kinds of containers that can carry immortals.
It can be a person, such as a person who is extremely compatible with the immortal's own fate. The higher the cultivation, the better. If it is the remains of a dead immortal, it would be even better.
It can also be an object, such as an immortal object, or some special semi-immortal objects, which can be used as a container. If it is an immortal object that the immortal has used before, the effect is best.
The quality of the container also determines the realm of cultivation that the immortal can exert after descending.
The container chosen by Zhiming Sect this time is the "Lord of Gifts" and the "Gifts" that they carefully cultivated, with Zhenwu Lake as the breeding place and "Xuanyu" as the primer.
The power that Siming Zhenjun who descended in this way can exert is far greater than that of Tsowenbu's Wu Luo.
