Dominate the Country

Chapter 1064 The Domineering Chinese Emperor

The playground was bustling with people, the red flag was still flying high, and each class quickly lined up in their respective positions. The quality of students in Sungkyunkwan Public School is very high. There is no quarrel between classes over who takes up more space and who has less space. All classes quickly formed a large square formation of 50X50+.

There are only so many students in Sungkyunkwan Public School. Each class has a maximum of 48 students, and the smallest is only 42-3. There are 5 classes in one stage, from preschool to high school, a total of 12 stages, and only 2,600-700 students in the whole school. In this era, this is already a lot.

All the teachers and students in the school formed the same large square formation. From the ringing of the bell to the end of the formation, it took less than 20 minutes. But this time is already a lot. If it was the first ten years after the founding of the country, it would not take even ten minutes. Every time the school had a big gathering, each class lined up, and the action was like a regular army gathering. Although the number of students at Sungkyunkwan Public School was definitely not as many as it is now, a university with two or three thousand students was unimaginable at that time.

No one spoke, and the playground was silent. Although every student, even some teachers, were surprised by this, no one spoke without permission, including the elementary school and preschool classes, and everyone's eyes were on the platform.

Zhang Honglin and Li Yaozong were about the same height, and they stood in front and behind each other when they stood in line. Like all the students present, the two were also puzzled by what was happening in front of them. Zhang Honglin was more secretly happy because this would take up class time, but Li Yaozong was still depressed because his class's internal basketball game [physical education class] was interrupted. Of course, the bigger reason was that their team was behind by too many points, and they couldn't even say that their team would be able to make up in the remaining time, and the end had not yet arrived, and who would win and who would lose had not yet been determined.

The gap of 20 points was too big.

Soon, Ye Bangwei, the current principal of Chengjun Public School, appeared on the stage, but he was not alone. He was followed by many senior officials of the school. Most importantly, there was also a strange officer in military uniform. Looking at the officer's rank, many students were surprised that he was a general.

Ye Bangwei was full of smiles. He was 46 years old this year and was unknown in the history of the original time and space. But in this time and space, he is a master of Chinese studies who emerged after Chen Han established the country. He was just 30 years old and was "famous all over the world". Because he thoroughly found the "roots" for the new Confucianism to survive and grow!

Since the founding of the country, Chen Han has suppressed Confucianism, especially Neo-Confucianism. When Western science, which Chen Ming strongly advocated, showed its power on Chinese soil, the old Confucianism based on Neo-Confucianism was completely finished.

In this process, the influence of the new Confucianism, that is, the "new Confucianism", has been increasing. But it also has a fatal flaw, that is, it has become completely powerless to resist the thing of science.

Thousands of new Confucians do not want to see the new school, which has degenerated into an academic discipline, completely transformed into a humanistic concept and then shelved. So what should be done?

At that time, there were not just three or two scholars in China who were committed to integrating Eastern and Western doctrines into Confucianism. It was a large group. There are still too many people in China who cannot let go of Confucianism. Many of them are even quite famous.

But the world is different from the past. The results of industrial development are visible to everyone. Facts speak louder than words.

If Confucianism wants to have a way out and new Confucians do not want to repeat the mistakes of old Confucians, they must not only solve the biggest problem of Confucianism - pragmatism, but also integrate the development of productivity.

For a long time, the "research" path of thousands of new Confucians has been devoted to how to integrate everything from business, industry, justice, science, etc. into new Confucianism. They have not given up the past Confucianism as the "teachers of the world".

Many people are heartbroken about the end of the old school, and on the basis of inheriting traditional doctrines, they try to connect the two cultures of China and the West. More new Confucians, in the name of imitating the ancients and tracing the roots, willfully misinterpreted scientific theorems and forcibly linked them to the traditional academic studies of Chinese Confucianism. For a time, the news about the "hookup" between Western natural science and Chinese Confucianism spread throughout the academic community, leaving Chen Ming in the palace dumbfounded. Later, when this group of Confucian scholars saw that Confucianism was about to collapse, they did not hesitate to bring out Taoism, Buddhism, the Hundred Schools of Thought before the Qin Dynasty, and everything that could be covered, and even proposed "Western learning and Chinese origin". Chen Ming was dumbfounded, and at the same time, he had to sigh that "literati have no teeth" and lamented that the "experts and beasts" of later generations were not without a teacher.

But Ye Bangwei's proposition was exactly the opposite. He stripped away those messy "weird things" and stuck to the "inner sage and outer king", the foundation of Confucianism. Its core idea is benevolence and courtesy.

Benevolence is to implement benevolent policies with the heart of "loving others" so that all members of society can enjoy the right to survival and happiness; propriety is to establish the moral order of society through the method of "rectifying names" (i.e. moral education) so that all members of society have stable moral recognition and moral positioning of their own social status.

If all members of society generally enjoy the right to survive and be happy, there will be no need to rebel; if all members of society generally recognize the moral order of society and abide by the moral norms that suit their specific circumstances, there will be no moral basis for rebellion (i.e. no ideological basis). If members of society neither need to rebel nor have the consciousness to rebel, society can be long-term and stable. Therefore, in theory, Neo-Confucianism is a social ruling strategy and social management theory that transcends social forms and class forms. It can be simply understood as "each doing his own job and doing his best".

The relationship between benevolence and courtesy is that benevolence and courtesy are one. If only courtesy is emphasized instead of benevolence, courtesy will not be generally recognized by members of society and will be opposed; if only benevolence is emphasized instead of courtesy, members of society will not be bound by morality, and the anarchy in thought will lead to anarchy in reality - this term is passed on from the West. Therefore, the "benevolence and courtesy" of Neo-Confucianism are inseparable.

In specific practice, Ye Bangwei is holding on to the "people-oriented thought" of Master Meng, where the people are more important than the monarch, and "people" are placed at the center of the doctrine. This was a big adventure for Ye Bangwei, but he obviously won the bet.

Ye Bangwei also gave a new interpretation to the Three Bonds and Five Constant Virtues advocated by the old Confucianism, and the set of "The ruler is the ruler, the minister is the minister, the father is the father, and the son is the son". On the one hand, the connotation of "The ruler adheres to the ruler's way, the minister adheres to the minister's way, the father adheres to the father's way, and the son adheres to the son's way" is: the ruler adheres to the ruler's way is the premise of the minister's way, and the father adheres to the father's way is the premise of the son's way. Therefore, when the superior violates benevolence and courtesy, the inferior can take positive or negative means to maintain benevolence and courtesy. That's just like what Mencius said to King Hui of Wei: Those who harm benevolence are called thieves; those who harm righteousness are called cruel. People who are cruel and thieves are called tyrants. I have heard of the execution of Tyrant Zhou, but I have never heard of the killing of the king!

Generally speaking, not many of the ideas advocated by Ye Bangwei were independently thought out by him. Many aspects were publicly published in newspapers during the previous debates. But what is rare is that Ye Bangwei has systematically combined all of this, and stripped off many, many "strange and lewd techniques".

The most important thing is that Ye Bangwei, who was under the banner of "retro", did not suffer a thunderbolt from Chen Ming when he just made his voice, which means that the court recognized the "people-oriented thought".

After ten years of ups and downs, Ye Bangwei went from a newcomer to a Confucianist, from "famous all over the world" to "renowned all over the world". He did not enter the officialdom, but established a foothold in the academic world, and was hired as the principal of Chengjun Public School after Liu Wen, the old principal of Chengjun Public School, retired three years ago.

Ye Bangwei, all students know him, the principal of the public school. But no one knows the generals around Ye Bangwei. The generals represented by Chen Han can be said to be the dry city of the country, but there are not only generals who serve as substitutes in Nanjing City. There are dozens of generals who are in charge of the Grand Commandery and hold real power, nearly a hundred people, and there are even more who have no real power. God knows where this person in front of him came from.

Yang Fang stood behind the principal. When Ye Bangwei turned his head to examine the student formation below, Yang Fang was still worried about the speech that was about to begin. Don't miss a word.

He came today for nothing else, just to formally notify Chengjun Public School to start military training. This is not just a matter for Chengjun Public School, but something that the whole Chen Han must promote.

The emperor had officially ordered the conscription of 300,000 people five days ago, which is not a small number. And now, from today on, all primary and secondary schools in the country must take out one month in each school year to carry out systematic military training.

Just like when the country was just founded, the school physical education class at that time was a military training class. Students were playing and fighting to capture enemy positions and fighting with bayonets. Now is a peaceful era, and the military color has long been removed from all civilian schools.

One month of military training every year, the training subjects and intensity are adjusted according to age. For high school students, they can already shoot guns and practice bayonet fighting.

Yang Fang is the director of the newly established Military Training Bureau of the Grand Commandery. Of course, this is his part-time job.

And the reason why Yang Fang, such a powerful general, came to Chengjun Public School to announce the order in person is not because of the special status of the public school. If this place is hit by rockets, 80% of the powerful families in Chen Han will burst into tears.

Ye Bangwei understands the decision made by the court. He is a representative of the new Confucian school. Although he is not in the officialdom, he is well-informed. Alexander I of Russia formally refused to negotiate peace, and the war in the northwest must continue. Moreover, the Ottomans sent people to ask for help. The current emperor has decided to fight the Russians to the end.

Whether it is conscription or ordering military training in colleges and universities across the country, it is all for show. Let the people inside Chen Han and the Europeans outside see clearly the determination and domineering of Emperor Chen.

If you fight, you fight. If you don't fight, you're a grandson. Who am I afraid of?

Ye Bangwei also knows some things that most people don't know, such as Emperor Chen's request for help from the Ottoman Empire. He not only gave money and materials, but also prepared a troop of soldiers to rush to the Ottoman Empire.

However, it was not the sea route in the south, but the Caspian Sea in the northwest, through Persia and the South Caucasus, and directly to the northeast of the Ottoman Empire.

As for these students in the school, it's good to exercise. Shooting and riding are better than playing ball.

Ye Bangwei's slogan is "retro", but how far can Confucianism's retro retro be restored? Not only Confucius, but also Duke Zhou. The Confucian school regards Duke Zhou and Confucius as its ancestors, and Confucianism can trace its ancestor back to Duke Zhou. In the aristocratic education system of the Western Zhou Dynasty, there were archery and driving. Chariots were outdated a long time ago, so horses were used to make up for it.
