Tales of Herding Gods

Memorial to Jin Yong

Mr. Jin Yong has passed away.

When Zhaizhu saw this news last night, he was still a little skeptical, because there had been rumors several years ago that Jin Yong had passed away. However, as more and more news came out later, Zhaizhu finally believed that Mr. Jin Yong had really passed away.

Mr. Jin Yong is a milestone figure in martial arts novels and also their pinnacle.

Zhaizhu likes to read novels, especially martial arts novels, and has also read romance novels.

My literary literacy also came from martial arts novels.

When I was a child, I didn’t read deeply and had no literary literacy. At that time, there were not as many books as there are now, and I could read literary classics at will.

When I was a kid, I read Chinese books. My elder sisters started school earlier than me, and there were several editions of Chinese textbooks, for elementary school, junior high school, and high school. When I was in elementary school and junior high school, I read through the high school Chinese textbooks of my elder sisters.

When I was in junior high school, I came into contact with books other than Chinese textbooks, and martial arts novels were one of them.

I remember the first time I felt I had a sense of literary literacy.

That was when I was on my way to junior high school, reading Gu Long’s novel, Happy Hero.

Suddenly, I felt the rhythm hidden in Gu Long's words like beating notes, the lingering taste in my mouth when reading, and the clear life of the characters in the book.

At this moment, I felt like I had gotten started and was able to understand the words in the book.

The second time I had this feeling was when I read Jin Yong's novels. After I understood Gu Long's novels, I actually felt for a while that Gu Long's literary level was higher than Jin Yong's. Until one day I read The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber and read this sentence, "Burn my broken body, the holy fire is blazing, what is the joy of life, what is the pain of death? To do good and eliminate evil, only light can do it. Joy, sorrow, and sadness, all return to dust. Pity us, the people of this world, we have so many worries!"

After reading this and combining it with the situation in the book, I suddenly burst into tears.

At this moment, it seemed as if another door had opened.

When I read Mr. Jin Yong's novels again, I suddenly felt the power contained in the words and the emotions and spirit hidden in the language.

Gu Long wrote stories, each with his own personality, and his writing was as beautiful as prose poetry, easy to read. However, in terms of the emotions in his writing, his writing was superficial, much weaker than the emotions and spirit contained in Jin Yong's writing.

The emotions and spirit in Jin Yong's writing are deeply hidden, which is one of the reasons why he ranks above Gu Long in martial arts literature.

After understanding this, I read other books and finally understood the pros and cons of the articles. This improved my appreciation level.

Later, when I read Yu Qiuyu's essays, Lu Xun's essays, and Red Mansions and Water Margin again, I could finally appreciate the beautiful situations, emotions contained in the books, and the life of the characters in the books.

Gradually, I also embarked on the path of literary creation.

Mr. Jin Yong's books had a great influence on me and were my enlightenment. In my senior year Chinese language exam, my first essay that received full marks was a short martial arts story.

Mr. Jin Yong has passed away, and my heart is filled with melancholy. I once regarded him as a literary idol, imitated his writing style, and wrote my own martial arts dreams on paper with my pen.

It was a high mountain. I used my pen as steps to climb up the mountain. When I looked up, the mountain was still there.

He has passed away, but the mountain is still there, and I am still at the foot of the mountain.

I really like his writing, the characters and situations he created, and the spirit of his books.

There is a passage in the Records of the Shepherd God, "My father and I are from Niujia Village. We passed by your place, not for fame, not for profit, but because my daughter has reached the age of marriage and has not yet been promised a husband. Therefore, we are holding a martial arts competition to find a husband, and hope to find a hero with outstanding martial arts skills..."

It is excerpted from the original text of Mr. Jin Yong's The Legend of the Condor Heroes and appears twice.

Mourning and remembering cannot show respect. Only the word "sacrifice" can express my respect for Mr. Jin Yong.

In memory of Jin Yong.
