Mysteries of the Earthsea

Chapter 43 The Wooden Boat

One month passed quickly, and soon it was time to go to sea again.

Black smoke rose from the chimney of the Narwhal again, and Charles took the newly recruited crew onto the deck.

"Bandage, go and allocate the mission time for the new crew members." Charles said to the first officer beside him.

The silent first officer nodded, and walked towards the deck with the new crew members on his newly grown legs.

And Charles brought Orderic to the captain's room, and the newly purchased huge sea chart was spread out on the table, with the islands, dangerous areas, and dark areas clearly marked on it.

Charles said to the vampire in front of him, "Where is Sodom? Mark it out."

"Um, I can't see, please tell me the location of Dark Crystal Island."

Charles put his hand on a thumbtack and told him that this was the Shadow Isle.

Orderic followed the Dark Crystal Island, drew an arc on the sea chart with his fingers, and poked lightly on it with his sharp nails. "here."

To Charles' surprise, that place wasn't as far away as he thought. "Sodom is here? So close?"

"It's here sometimes, on the 6th and 25th of a month, it's going to be here."

Charles was taken aback. "Appear? Isn't it an island? Is it moving?"

"Yes, Captain. To be precise, it is a ship, a large ship assembled from the ships plundered by pirates."

Looking at the distance of the dot, Charles quickly estimated the sailing time and supplies in his mind.

Although what Orderic said is so decisive, but after all, the information is 40 years ago, and if there is nothing there, it is unlikely that there will be no supplies to come back.

"Is the plasma pack enough?"

Orderic nodded quickly, "It's enough, I have enough for 60 days."

"Reserve a part, if there is a high-intensity battle, I may need it."

"Understood, but Captain Charles, it is a relic of the blood race after all, you'd better use it sparingly."

"Understood, you go."

Orderic bowed, turned into a bat and flew out quickly.

In the waters near the island, Charles deliberately walked slowly so that the newly joined crew members could get in touch with each other.

Most of the crew this time were locals from Coral Island, and some of them even had a relationship with Charles once, and they got along fairly well.

On the eighth day after leaving the port, the Narwhal slowly approached its destination, and the dark sea finally began to change.

"Captain, there is a boat ahead!!"

"I saw it." Charles looked through the glass at the distant ship.

That was obviously not Sodom, the ship was too small, only half the size of the Narwhal, and it was still a wooden ship.

Wooden boats are rare in the Earth Sea. Generally, most of the places where wood can grow are bulldozed and used to grow edible crops.

As the ship approached slowly, more details appeared in front of Charles. Unlike the turbine drive of the Narwhal, this wooden ship was actually powered by sails.

Not to mention that there is basically no wind in the Earth Sea, but there is wind. It would be too long to sail with sails alone.

"Captain, what should we do?"

"I'll take the helm, and you go out and make the semaphore, and tell them that according to the convention, left rudder to left rudder."

This is the basic operation of sailing, even if the two sides do not communicate, the two ships will collide.

"Okay!" Dipper with the bracelet rushed out holding the flag.

The red flag was quickly waved by the boy, and the wooden boat began to turn, as if it understood the flag language.

The two boats passed by. Charles looked at the old wooden boat, and doubts flashed in his heart. Is this boat also going to Sodom?

"Crack, crack!" The crisis appeared instantly, the gun door on the left side of the wooden ship opened directly, and a black gun muzzle pointed at the Narwhal.

Charles, who was tense all over, made a decisive decision and turned the steering wheel wildly, trying to meet the opponent's shells with the smallest area.

Even though Charles responded urgently, many shells still hit the deck, but the expected explosion sound did not come. The shells seemed to be soft, sticking to where they hit, and began to emit black and purple smoke. It didn't take long. Smoke enveloped the entire Narwhal.

"Lily! Counterattack!!" Hearing Charles' voice, the mice on the deck quickly rushed towards the fort, and the muzzle of the 125mm gun began to move towards the wooden boat.

At the same time, one after another of black shadows slowly floated out along the black and purple mist. Their pitch-black bodies were as thin as paper, which meant that there were no facial features at the head position, and they held weapons of the same material in their hands.

As soon as the weird paper man stood still, he ran towards the deck cannon, slashing wildly at the mice on it, and the movement of the cannon muzzle was forced to stop.

The crew fired rapidly at the things, but the bullets passed through them without affecting their movement at all.

Charles, who was frowning tightly, didn't dare to delay, he took out the mirror and was about to smear blood on it.

The ghost tricks on the side of the gods can't scare him, the wooden boat in the distance is the key, and he must be stopped.

Just as he was biting his finger with his teeth, there was a sudden pain in his abdomen. Shocked, Charles looked down and saw a bloody knife tip protruding from his chest.

He hardly thought about it. He drew out the pistol with his right hand and pointed it behind him. He was about to pull the trigger but stopped abruptly.

The person who stabbed him was Boatswain Dipper, with a strange smile on his face, and a cold voice came from his mouth, "Shoot...shoot..."

In the next second, Charles took a deep breath, endured the severe pain and directly covered the clown mask.

As soon as the mask was covered, Charles directly pulled the trigger, and Dipper was shot to the ground.

Controlling the muscles in his body to clamp the blade in his body, Charles stumbled out of the cockpit.

The crew members outside had already fought with the paper man, and they were obviously weak. Except for the giant James, the attacks of the others had no effect at all.

Charles, covering his wound, held the bat mirror and threw it at the bat in the air. "Blind man! I shook his boat!!"

The bat held the mirror in its mouth and quickly flew towards the wooden boat.

As soon as the words were finished, a piece of paper man appeared behind Charles at some unknown time, holding a shining weapon and slashing at his head.

Charles retreated quickly and crashed into his arms, the black knife in his hand flew up and down, and the paper man quickly turned into scraps of paper.

"Cut, that's it?" Charles was just about to rush into the battlefield with the knife in hand, when his body froze suddenly, and the wound began to ooze blood again.

He immediately didn't dare to act rashly, his body was in jeopardy, and if he moved again, he might die from bleeding directly.

Charles quickly found another solution, he squatted down slowly, and took out a handful of steel nails from the wooden barrel next to him.

The steel nails were thrown out, and they were precisely inserted into the paper man's body, nailing them to the ground, but this was only a delaying tactic.

There are more and more paper figures, seemingly endless, and Charles' consciousness has begun to blur.
