Chapter 375 Indochina Federation

There are very few selfless people. When encountering a problem, of course they have to consider the problem from their own perspective first. The same is true for the country. Any country must consider the absolute interests of its own country.

So, from this perspective, the Vietnamese also have their own "difficulties".

For many years, even Ho Chi Minh, who is called the father of the nation by Vietnam, has been dreaming of a federation of Indochina. The so-called Indochina refers to the old French colony of French Indochina, which is now Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

Vietnam was indeed once the ruler of the Indochina Peninsula in history. When Vietnam broke away from Chinese rule more than 1,000 years ago, it occupied only a Chinese Xiangjun, which is now the Hanoi area of Vietnam. After that, the Vietnamese continued to expand westward and southward, destroyed an ancient civilization, Champa, swallowed up half of Cambodia, and expanded Vietnam's territory fourfold. By the 19th century, the entire Cambodia plus Laos were under the rule of the Vietnamese Nguyen Dynasty.

As for the Nguyen Dynasty, the last feudal dynasty, it was also quite powerful in its early days, just like the Qing Dynasty. But in its later years, its national strength declined. First, it was unable to defeat France and was forced to withdraw from Cambodia. Later, Vietnam itself was also occupied by France.

This history has given the Vietnamese a feeling that the real Vietnam should include Cambodia and Laos. Therefore, the leaders of Vietnam have always been dreaming of restoring the Indochina Federation and letting the Vietnamese rule the entire "Indochina Peninsula" themselves.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. If any country, which has the most powerful territory in history, thinks that it should have the territory it has now, the whole world will be in chaos. A successful example in modern times is Israel, which once lived in Palestine, so it wants to build its own country from there.

Now, Cambodia is in civil strife, and Prince Sihanouk is also under house arrest in the capital of Cambodia. In fact, Cambodia has been in civil strife since the 1970s. First, in March 1970, Minister Lon Nol launched a coup and Sihanouk was forced to go into exile in China. China has always reiterated that Sihanouk is the legitimate leader of Cambodia. After that, Sihanouk used the power of China to form an exile government, the "National Coalition Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia". He formed a united front with Pol Pot, the Communist Party of Cambodia. In 1975, the Khmer Rouge of the Communist Party of Cambodia occupied the entire territory of Cambodia, and the Lon Nol regime collapsed. As the head of state, Sihanouk announced the establishment of the communist country Democratic Kampuchea and returned to Cambodia.

Unfortunately, Sihanouk regretted it later. The Khmer Rouge only needed Sihanouk's name. Not only did he have no real power, he was even placed under house arrest in the palace. His five sons and fourteen grandsons were tortured and killed in the process. If the Chinese government had not put pressure on the Pol Pot government, Sihanouk would probably have died.

Cambodia under the rule of the Khmer Rouge was also in chaos. People were in exile, food production decreased, and the national regime was on the verge of collapse.

It was under such circumstances that Vietnam launched the invasion of Cambodia! Although it did not receive the Soviet Union's instructions, Vietnam could not wait any longer! The dream of the Indochina Federation made the Vietnamese government take risks. Moreover, Vietnam even drove away the United States, and was more confident in facing the weak China!

"We cannot compromise with the Vietnamese government!" Deng Gong said calmly after careful consideration: "Vietnam is challenging our bottom line! If we don't do anything, we will lose our voice in Southeast Asia. We must teach the Vietnamese a profound lesson!"

Vietnam is testing whether China is determined to teach them a lesson. If so, China will raise its fist and beat these monkeys hard!

"Mr. Deng, what we need most now is to consider the attitude of the Soviet Union first." The Minister of Defense said to Mr. Deng.

With millions of troops, it would be easy for China to deal with the Vietnamese monkeys. However, before teaching the Vietnamese monkeys a lesson, they must know the attitude of the Soviet Union! After all, the relationship between China and the Soviet Union has just eased. The troops of both sides in the border area have gradually withdrawn, ending the confrontation. The national border is also being defined. The Soviet MiG-23 fighters have also been sold to China. The attitude of the Soviet Union is crucial.

Because the Soviets have always supported Vietnam! Vietnam was able to turn against China after driving away the Americans because the master behind it was the Soviet Union! Therefore, if China wants to attack Vietnam, it must inform the Soviet Union!

The relationship between countries is complex and intricate. As a leader, one must have an overall strategic grasp. Any carelessness may trigger a series of reactions.

"Yes, we want to teach Vietnam a lesson, and we must first inform our Soviet friends." Deng said. We must first test the Soviet Union's reaction, after all, Vietnam is the Soviet Union's younger brother.

If the Soviet Union does not react strongly, we will intervene militarily to make the Vietnamese monkeys behave themselves. If the Soviet Union reacts strongly, we will continue to negotiate. There is always a solution.

The voices from the top leaders of China reached Moscow through radio waves. Andropov took the news very seriously.

"Vietnam has always been on our side. Now, we can't just sit back and watch China teach Vietnam a lesson." Marshal Ogarkov said, "At the same time, this is also an opportunity to show our influence. We put pressure on China to cancel this plan, so that Vietnam will be more obedient to us."

Marshal Ogarkov was indeed forward-looking in terms of military technology, but in terms of national strategy, Marshal Ogarkov was a little lacking. As an attendee at the meeting, Andrei originally had no chance to speak, so he just listened quietly to the speeches of these bigwigs.

"We initially won over Vietnam in order to deal with the United States. We exported so many weapons and ammunition to fight the United States. Later, we continued to support Vietnam in order to balance China. Now, our relationship with China has eased, and Vietnam is no longer important to us." Ustinov said: "If China wants to teach Vietnam a lesson, let China do it. We can also see what the level of the Chinese is."

Ustinov meant that it was none of his business and he should stay out of it. He also wanted to take the opportunity to see the combat effectiveness of China's millions of troops with outdated equipment.

Vietnam's use to the Soviet Union was to gain a foothold in Asia! And now, with the island country, Vietnam's position in the Soviet Union's strategy has greatly declined!
