Werewolf Hunting Rules

Chapter 178 The Nervous Priest

Barbara listened to their discussion and became confused.

The death state of this corpse was undoubtedly caused by Clayton's axe, but the location did not match what Julius said, and werewolves and wizards did not have special habits and would not dress the corpse carefully.

Who moved these bodies?

As she was thinking, the detectives finally realized that there was another local who could provide clues.

Ace cleared his throat: "I'm sorry for letting you see this scene. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Barbara replied smoothly and subconsciously, and then added: "I used to be a nurse in a hospital, so I can accept this kind of scene."

She did work as a nurse, so she wasn't lying, so her tone was very natural.

"Very good, can you tell who the deceased is?"

"I do not know him."

She really didn't know him, she just knew from Julius that he was from the circus.

"It seems that this poor guy is also a stranger." Ace muttered. "But this matter has nothing to do with us, and no one will pay for it. Let's find a sheriff to handle this matter."

He turned to look at Barbara: "Ma'am, do you know how to contact the town's sheriff?"

“There is no Sheriff in the town and we usually use the local courts to resolve disputes.”

"But..." Barbara looked at him: "There are quite a few sheriffs from the city."

"So that monster sneaked up to the window last night to spy on me?" Donna sat on the wood pile in the backyard used for chopping firewood. She cursed a few words in Numbuliga slang in a low voice, and hit the sheep's back angrily. The man couldn't bear it and got up and went back.

Clayton reached out and grabbed the sheep. He had just bought it with Peron and it was now his property.

"Donna, a lady shouldn't talk like that," he chided gently.

Donna wrinkled her nose and lowered her head:

"I got it."

But because Donna had a good night's sleep, she soon became excited again.

"So where are we going in a minute?"

"Go to church," Clayton said.

The girl's face fell.

Clayton forced a smile: "Hurry up and finish your breakfast. I have a gift for you later."

Due to a night of nervous tension, his tone now was unnatural.

Donna cheered and rushed to the lobby to eat.

She ate quickly, cleared away the plates and bowls in a short time, and happily returned to the yard to wait to receive Clayton's gift.

Clayton pressed a human hand and a piece of snake skin into her arms as agreed.

Donna looked at them, frozen from her hair to her toes.

Julius looked at her with pity: "I think you should explain the contents of the gift before giving it, so that she won't expect so much."

Clayton also felt a little regretful. He reached out and patted his niece on the shoulder, trying to wake her up.

The girl returned from the state of a sculpture to a living person, cheering loudly. She held these two strange objects snatched from the dead, her eyes were blazing, as if she wanted to eat them, and her expression was even more wolfish than a werewolf.

It could be seen that she was just overwhelmed by the surprise, and her spirits were not seriously affected.

The wizard could only shrug again: "Well, the people of Bracola cannot use common sense to speculate. But you gave her the Hand of Glory, what will you do?"

Clayton also shrugged: "As long as she's good, I can handle the rest of the bad luck myself."

The werewolf's vitality is tenacious enough, so it is better to give all the hands of glory to the wizards. Outside of battle, he still has to rely on these two to perform his role.

He looked at his elated niece and sighed slightly. He never thought that he would have to face danger with his relatives - since Wu Lun's death, he has not been willing to imagine such a scene.

Now it is Wu Lun's daughter who is in danger.

"Okay, girl, since you want to act with us, tell me, apart from the magic of destiny link, what other abilities do you have to protect yourself?" He stared at the little girl, waiting for her to say in embarrassment, Or words like no.

But Donna was even happier, she was happy to show herself off.

"I can communicate with animals and can also transform, but I can only transform into ordinary animals."

She pointed to the sheep at Clayton's feet: "Like this—get down."

At the end of the slender fingertips, the sheep looked at her coldly and stood motionless.

Clayton was silent.

"Well, being able to communicate with animals doesn't mean that the animals have to listen to me." Donna scratched her head. "But if my mental power fluctuates greatly enough, I can also use the Forced Command Technique to deal with it. It can also deal with people."

Sheep are very stubborn animals, and Clayton can probably understand this failure.

"Then how do you use the transformation technique?"

"Wait a mininute."

Donna slipped out and came back a moment later with the saddlebags.

She pulled out Marshall's wolfskin from inside, and Julius's eyelids twitched, but after seeing Clayton's face, he didn't tell the truth after all.

The girl noticed Clayton's gaze and suddenly realized that she had taken away the other person's belongings without seeking the other person's opinion. This seemed to be a shameful thing.

"Sorry, I just thought it might be useful, so I took it out."

Clayton didn't mean to blame her: "You did the right thing. It's always good to be fully prepared before taking risks."

Now Donna felt at ease and focused on showing them how to use the transfiguration technique.

"First this and then this."

Clayton was tall, so the wolf skin around his neck did not look out of place. When it was spread out beside the girl, its length even slightly exceeded the latter's height. Donna put the wolf's head on her head with some effort, and her hands and feet corresponded to the limbs of the wolf skin.

She wore the wolf skin, looked up at the sky, and then retracted her gaze and pounced forward, rolling on the ground. When she stood up again, she had turned into a tall black wolf.

It stood there, majestic.

Clayton thought that Wolf Walker Marshall was alive again.

Julius stood up directly from the pile of wood, with an admiring expression on his face: "It's really a brilliant transformation. I think this is rare in Brakola. I mean compared with your peers, this is not bad."

The black wolf rolled on the ground again, and the girl rolled out of the wolf skin, triumphant.

"Not bad, right?"

"Does this witchcraft require animal skin to perform?" Clayton asked.

"Ah," the girl answered vaguely.

If there were no animal skins as spellcasting materials, she would have to have a considerable attainment in anatomy to restore the current level.

The lieutenant was a little annoyed. If he had known earlier, he would have told Donna where his warehouse was. He had bought several lion skins from the colony in the first half of the year, and he has not sold them yet.

But knowing that Donna has a certain fighting ability, he can also rest assured.

Then, they agreed on the story of what happened last night and went to the church together.

Because they left early enough, they even intercepted Father Louis who was going to the church on the way.

Although the latter was alone at the moment, he was not afraid or alert when he saw outsiders approaching rashly. It seemed that faith or something else was supporting his spirit, but he still looked sad.

Clayton greeted him, but he did not respond immediately. Instead, he looked at the wizard with doubt, and then he suddenly confirmed the identity of the lieutenant.

He asked coldly: "Oh, it's you, what's up with you?"

Clayton touched his smooth chin uncomfortably, and this feeling of being unprotected made him uneasy: "Respected Father Louis, we do have something important to discuss with you, so that you know that we encountered the beast last night."

The priest's eyes became sharp.

"This is impossible!"

Clayton narrowed his eyes, and Father Louis's reaction was obviously abnormal.

"Why, do you think we can't see the beast?"

The priest's eyes shook, and he also realized that he had spoken out of turn: "I mean, we did a lot of tests, but we couldn't catch the werewolf in the past two days, so I think it should not be in the town now, but escaped to the area outside the town, and should not appear here."

He didn't know Clayton's itinerary for the past two days, otherwise he wouldn't use this excuse to prevaricate.

Clayton said, "Oh," without commenting.

"Then what we saw was not a werewolf."

"What?" The priest finally got really nervous: "Then what did you see?"

Clayton told him everything he saw exactly.

After getting such a definite answer, the priest immediately asked them to take him to the scene to check. They returned to the inn together and borrowed a ladder from Perron, because the priest had to climb up to the roof where Clayton witnessed the monster to check.

It had snowed a few days ago, and now the snow melted, naturally washing away a layer of dust on the double-pitched roof, revealing the dark brown material underneath.

Priest Louis went up to the roof alone, leaving the others below.

After a while, he looked down from the roof, and his face was ten times uglier than before.

"I need someone to go to the church to bring holy water." He suddenly realized that they were all outsiders, so he added: "The holy water is stored in front of the angel, that is, under the niche. If you can't find it, then take some from the wash basin at the door and bring it over."

No one wanted to do this job, so Clayton spent a little money to hire a local to help.

He came back soon and saw the wizards pestering the priest.

Julius disguised himself as a poor and helpless pharmacist, while Donna was the frail daughter of an antique dealer. The two pretended to be panicked and asked Father Louis what he thought under the ladder.

The clergyman on the roof shrank back and did not show his face again, but his voice seemed very tired.

"There are indeed evil things passing by here, but you don't have to worry. The Lord has been watching us. When we are in danger, He will definitely bless us, make the evil retreat, and the evil things will be punished."

His comfort fell into the air.

If the following people were really believers, perhaps this speech would be useful.

Because all the listeners were heretics, the priest was harassed in a disrespectful way, and he patiently responded to the heretics over and over again with content that they did not want to hear.

Clayton couldn't stand this situation earlier than him.

The illogical conversation made the werewolf feel weird from the bottom of his heart, and he could not indulge his companions to continue.

He interrupted them and said, "I think we should wait a little longer. Don't bother Mr. Louis with questions. I have asked someone to get holy water from the church. When the holy water arrives, Mr. Louis will probably have an idea. After all, we can't let laymen like us do exorcism."

There was silence for a while on the roof and under the ladder.

The priest spoke again. He seemed to have just understood their concerns from Clayton's hints, and now he finally expressed his own judgment.

"The monster you see may be a [evil creature]. The sufferer's "Hidden Book" warns everyone to be pure and abstinent: 'Do not fill the cup to the brim, do not do things to the extreme.' People whose desires and evil thoughts are twisted and strong and cannot be satisfied will be alienated by the evil in their hearts, forming [evil creatures] that retain some human characteristics, and different emotions and desires will cause different alienations."

Although saying this will undermine his prestige, Priest Louis still admitted his shortcomings.

"As for the one you met, I can't determine its species yet. However, in any case, this evil existence dare not set foot in the holy land. If you feel afraid, you can hide in the church for shelter."

Evil creatures are more afraid of the power of miracles than ordinary dark descendants, because they are the opposite of human good qualities

Clayton and Julius both felt heavy in their hearts.

They also have a certain understanding of evil creatures, because the way they are born is relatively harsh. This twisted creature is often related to the induction of the devil, but it has nothing to do with the "beast" mentioned by Professor Christopher.

In other words, they have one more enemy.

"Besides me, who else have you told about this?" the priest suddenly asked.

Clayton answered him: "No one, I don't think there is another exorcist in town who is more reliable than you."

Louis leaned out from the roof again and looked at him.

"Then I would like to ask everyone to keep this secret for the time being before tonight comes."
