Mysteries of the Earthsea

Chapter 32 The Locals

Looking at the little heads on the pier in the distance, Charles licked his cracked lips. "Let's go to the shore first, and ask the locals directly when you go to the shore."

When Charles and the others got off the boat, there was already a group of people outside, staring at them without blinking their glasses.

Just as Charles was being stared at, two middle-aged men in customs uniforms pushed aside the crowd and walked over.

One of the men with nasolabial folds on his face asked a question. "Who is the captain? Where did your ship come from? You can't dock foreign ships here, don't you know??"

Charles stepped forward. Explained what happened to him in detail, and asked if there was a shipyard on this island.

After Charles finished speaking, he didn't get a response for a long time, and saw the two middle-aged men in front of him staring at him as if petrified.

It took several seconds for them to come to life, and their expressions were obviously enthusiastic. "Yes, sir, if you sail eastward, there is a shipyard there,"

The second officer, Kenona, leaned against Charles' ear and said, "Captain, are the people on this island slow to react?"

Charles didn't know either, but these were minor issues. Maybe it's the particular troubles that islands cause. .

When Charles drove the Narwhal into the shipyard, he was informed that it would take a month to replace the turbines.

Although it took a long time, there was nothing to do. The turbine was the heart of the steamship, and the Narwhal could not return to Coral Island without it.

After Charles paid the deposit and walked out of the pier, he saw the islanders still staring at them motionless.

The dry lips made them ignore the strange local customs at this time. Charles led the crew into a deserted hotel and had a hearty meal.

Looking at the crew members who were hiccupping and looking at ease, Charle said, "It takes a month to change the turbo, and the people in this place seem to be a bit xenophobic. Everyone, please be safe and don't cause trouble."

The crew members leaned comfortably on their chairs and agreed in twos and threes.

But when Charles handed out the reward for this mission, everyone cheered up.

Holding the Echo Coin in his hand, James said hesitantly: "Captain, this mission has failed, and the Narwhal will have to replace the turbine again, if it weren't for the salary this time—"

"It's okay, you still have to get the money you should get, everyone take a good rest during this time."

In the past, the frugality was to buy a boat. Now Charles doesn't care much about it. After encountering such a disaster, it would be a good deal if he simply relied on some banknotes to gather people's hearts.

As soon as they got the money, all the crew couldn't sit still, and they walked out with smiles on their faces, arms crossed.

Looking at their appearance, Charles certainly knew where they were going. For men who lived at sea, this was basically the usual practice. On the contrary, Charles, who had always been frugal, was a freak.

That night Charles had a nightmare, dreaming that he seemed to be submerged in the water again, and the huge and terrifying humanoid monster turned to look at him.

He shouted and shouted, and finally opened his eyes covered in cold sweat. There was no seabed or monsters, and there was only the ceiling of the hotel with some peeling paint in front of him.

"Mr. Charles, did you have a nightmare last night?" Lily jumped to her chest and said.

Charles sat up and took out his pocket watch to find that he had slept for eleven hours, which he had never experienced before.

Just when Charles got up and went to the bathroom, he found an envelope at the door.

When I opened it, a paragraph of beautiful cursive characters appeared in front of Charles.

Mr Charles:

The life on the sea exploration ship is too dangerous, I can't stand it, I decided to go back to the shore, sorry I can't say goodbye to you in person.

former sailor severer

"Hey..." Charles kneaded the envelope into a ball and threw it into the trash next to him.

"It seems that money alone can't keep people's hearts. Some people are scared out of their wits."

Charles' mood didn't fluctuate much, and it was reasonable for someone to leave in such a situation.

Counting the time, it should be night now, and Charles walked out with Lily.

The difference in the port area is not so obvious, but when Charles walked into the so-called crown area, he immediately noticed the difference between the island and the island.

Both the clothing and the architectural style here are completely different from Coral Island. Every man on the street wears a suit and leather collar and holds a cane in his hand. The ladies in all kinds of gorgeous costumes look very elegant.

I don't know if it's Charles' illusion, but the islanders on this island are considered to be upper-class, and the handsome men and women are much taller than ordinary islands.

But no matter how good-looking she is, her habit of staring at people has not changed.

It doesn't feel good to be looked at like a monkey. Charles stopped a man passing by and asked, "Sorry, where is the Explorers' Association? I didn't find the port area."

"Explorer's Association? What is that? I haven't heard of it."

Haven't heard of it? Charles was full of surprise. As far as he knew, most of the islands in Earthsea were found by explorers.

Although the organization of the association is loose, it has formed a symbiotic relationship with the governor of the island, and has great influence in places where humans live.

If there is no Exploration Association in this place, is this island an isolated island without contact with other islands?

Taking advantage of Charles' stupefied effort, the guy who was questioned had already turned and left.

After pondering for a moment, Charles went straight into a nearby library, and soon he found various charts from it. After comparing them, Charles quickly found the current location of the island.

He drew a line on the chart with his fingers, and said with a relaxed expression: "Fortunately, although this place has not been recorded, it is not too far away from Coral Island. Hurry up when the ship is repaired, and you can go back in 15 days at most." .”

After buying all kinds of new and old charts, Charles walked out of the library.

He stood in a bustling street and was stunned for a moment. The ship was being repaired and the current coordinates had been confirmed. Now he didn't know what to do.

If it was Charles before, maybe he should continue to exercise physical training and marksmanship to prepare for future adventures.

But thinking of the increasingly severe auditory hallucinations, Charles wondered if he was too tense, and he had never rested for a moment since he came here.

"Try to relax, maybe it's good for auditory hallucinations."

Thinking of this, Charles turned his head to look at Lily on his shoulder, "Let's visit this island."

"Yeah!" Lily's ears immediately perked up when she heard about going to play.

Towering spiers, vivid reliefs, and long windows of stained glass.

Although Charles doesn't have much artistic talent, he can still see that these buildings are extremely elegant, and the new islands like Coral Island, which don't have much heritage, are simply incomparable.

"Mr. Charles, what is that? It looks delicious!"
