Chapter 17 The Island
Charles and his party boarded the Narwhal. Compared with the dilapidated Mouse, the Narwhal was undoubtedly much more spacious and clean. Just looking at it was a pleasure.
He ran to every cabin and checked it carefully to make sure nothing was lost. As a captain, you must be as familiar with every part of the ship as you are with your own body.
After checking that everything was normal, Charles returned to the cockpit and waved his hand lightly. The narwhal's chimney began to billow black smoke, and the ship slowly sailed towards the deep sea.
Glancing at the gradually shrinking coral island outside the glass, Charles walked to the communication pipe and shouted into it: "Chief engineer, how does the new ship feel?"
After a few seconds, James' honest voice came from the pipe, "Captain, the boat is fine! The steam is coming out quickly! And it's not hot at all below, only 39 degrees."
"Turn the turbo to the max and let's try its speed."
"Yes, Captain."
As the black smoke in the chimney began to spew out, the speed of the Narwhal began to climb. When the speed reached the peak, Charles at the helm even felt like driving a speedboat.
At this moment, out of the corner of his eye, there was a white thing on the surface of the sea. "Chief engineer, slow down!"
The speeding Narwhal slowed down, and Charles also saw what that thing looked like, it was a corpse that had already been viewed as a giant.
He should have been lying in the water and being eaten by fish, but now he was standing on the sea with his feet strangely, staring at the Narwhal without moving.
Of course Charles wasn't curious about this guy's origin, he had seen weirder things at sea than this, he just wanted to find a target for his new cannon.
"Boom!" The recoil of the deck guns made the ship tremble violently.
Although no one in Charles had ever fired a cannon, it was impossible, but after firing more than a dozen rounds, the swollen corpse was instantly exploded.
No matter what force makes it stand up again, it must lie down before the shells.
Charles is sure that if he was on this ship when he encountered the buoy monster before, the ending would be completely different.
After testing the performance of the new ship, Charles turned his attention to the chart on the wall.
That is the sea chart given by the Explorers' Association. With this thing and a compass, you can find the target.
"Follow Route No. 6 first, and turn south to your destination when you reach navigation mark No. 68." Charles slid his finger on the chart.
"Yes, Captain!" the second officer at the helm responded. The red-haired guy looked a little excited, looking all over the place.
"I remember your name...Krona?"
"Yes, Captain, that's my name. My mother gave it to me. Captain, have you ever explored an island, as Frey said? That monster can really create an island in a person's memory." People that don't exist? How did you find them in the first place?"
Charles frowned slightly, as if recalling something unpleasant, "Just sail the boat well. When the time comes, the first mate will come to replace you."
Seeing his captain push the door and go out, Kenona was a little puzzled, "Did I ask something that shouldn't be asked? The flattery is ready."
The days at sea passed day by day, and the old crew and the new crew were also getting along with each other. Except for Di Pu who was too young and disobedient, the others got along pretty well.
The speed of the Narwhal was very fast. After just 7 days, they came to the waters near the target.
The bright beams of light swept around the dark sea, looking for the target island.
The nautical chart and compass can only find the approximate position, and the specific coordinates can only be found slowly through stupid methods.
In the cockpit, Kenona looked at Charles beside him. "Captain, I heard that some people at sea have a special way to find islands, which is much better than doing this. It seems to be a kind of magic. Do you know it?"
"Stop talking nonsense, steer your boat well." Charles felt that the two mates were talking too much.
"I...I have a way..." The bandage sitting on the stool interjected rarely.
Seeing the eyes of the two cast on himself, the bandage continued slowly: "In the church... there is a... ritual, you can pray... for the help of God Ftan, and you need... to sacrifice people."
Charles looked at the bandages with some confusion. It seemed that his first officer hadn't gotten rid of the Fortan Cult yet, and he hoped that time would alleviate the cult's brainwashing of him.
"Forget about those disgusting things, we don't need it."
"Captain, look! What is that!" Charles looked forward along the fingers of the second officer, and a fuzzy island appeared in front of him in the distance, and they found it.
The excited crew members stood on the deck one after another, looking at the islands in the distance.
With the lessons learned from the past, Charles did not rush to the island, and let the Narwhal observe around the island.
The brightness of the lights is limited, and you can only see the periphery of the island. The island is very large. It took 3 hours to complete a circle at the speed of a narwhal. The island under the lights looks very barren.
Most of the rocks on the island are strangely shaped stones, the big ones are as high as three or four floors, and the small ones are half the size of a human being. They are very separated from each other, as if there is a certain pattern. Stone Field Illusion.
"Can people live in this place?" Di Pu asked hesitantly, no one could answer this question.
Charles knew that whether the island could be inhabited or not, there must be some kind of danger on it. This is an island with a danger level of 5. Five exploration ships have explored the island and never returned.
"Throw some live fish up there and see if there are any meat eaters on the island."
Charles gave an order, and some sea fish were thrown onto the beach, and some wounds were deliberately scratched on the fish. The smell of blood began to permeate, and everyone watched anxiously.
It didn't take long for the sea fish that lacked water to suffocate to death. Half an hour later, Charles suddenly saw a pair of eyes light up among the stones. "Squeak~"
With black hair, a slender tail, and black eyes the size of mung beans, it was an ordinary mouse.
In full view, the mouse ran to a dead fish and began to bite.
Everyone showed joy on their faces. It was good news that the normal creatures came out. If mice can live on this island, then humans should be able to too.
But before they were happy, more greedy eyes emerged from the rocks, groups of mice rushed towards the dead fish like waves, and the white sandy beach was instantly covered with dark brown hair.
The sound of chewing on the coast came one after another, and the people on the boat were horrified when they heard it.
"This...there are a lot of rats..." The second officer Kenona looked at his captain with a forced smile.
